Casey Affleck appears to now be on Twitter (a recent photo seems legit):

    True Grit

From a review by Roger Friedman at Showbiz 411, who liked but did not love the film:

Who I did really like: Matt Damon is exceptional as Texas Ranger LaBeouf, the part played by Glen Campbell in the original. He even gets to spank Mattie, which I approve of. Damon is just great with his Texas accent and demeanor. Wasn’t it just last year he was playing South African in “Invictus”? Damon gets added to a list that includes Geoffrey Rush, Andrew Garfield (and or Justin Timberlake), Christian Bale, and Michael Douglas (“Wall Street 2″).

    Re: True Grit

He doesn't mean spank literally, right? I'm so confused. Gross.

    PS: I love how everyone's gushing about Matt...but I don't know if I'll be
satisfied with a nomination - I want a win for him!

    Re: True Grit

He does mean a literal spank (I think it's in the original movie too and the book).

I'll be happy with a nomination.

    Re: True Grit

Yes, the swatting scene is in the book and the earlier movie version. I'll be happy with a nom too - until he gets it, then I'll want the WIN! Lol. Actally, I want him to win it for his performance in Hereafter, which I think was inspired. But I don't know if that's in the cards this year, and supporting actor would be a nice consolation prize. By the way, Hereafter is apparently getting great reviews in Italy, where it just premiered. I'm glad that at least somewhere it's getting the recognition it deserves.

    Wedding anniversary

It's Matt and Lucy's fifth wedding anniversary on Thursday, and Matt's back filming in Chicago.

Wonder if they are trying to reduce his scenes, particularly with True Grit promotion ramping up from this weekend. Scenes planned for Yorkville (I think with Matt's character) have been cancelled:

    MNF

Matt watched the Patriots at a bar in Chicago on Monday night with some crew from the film:

People is so predictable. The same story with one extra comment is now posted (from a different source - the tip was $250).

Hot guy, hot wings! Matt Damon, grabbing some wings at Jake Melnick's in Chicago, where the actor is shooting Contagion. Damon stopped in with some crewmembers and shared appetizers as they watched the New England Patriots play the New York Jets. Damon also sampled some craft brews and left his server a generous tip.

It's set to music, but you can mouth-read some of the words: "I'm gonna punch you in the face", etc. Ha!

Coen film to open Berlin festival
    8 Dec 2010 14:36 GMT

Oscar-winning directors Joel and Ethan Coen's latest film True Grit will open the Berlin Film Festival.

Festival director Dieter Kosslick said they captivate audiences with their "penchant for irony and off-the-wall characters and stories".

Since their debut film Blood Simple in 1984, The Coen brothers have had several big hits including Fargo, A Serious Man and No Country for Old Men.

The festival is due to take place in the German capital from 10-20 February.

True Grit is a remake of John Wayne's 1969 movie of the same name.

The story is about a 14-year-old called Mattie, who sets out to find the man who murdered her father.

Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin star in the latest version of the film.

The movie will premiered and screened out of competition in Berlin.

The judging panel at the event will be headed by actress Isabella Rossellini.
