Golden Globe Awards
  • Matt and Lucy attended the Golden Globes on Sunday as Matt presented Robert DeNiro with the Cecil B. DeMille Award. A report on the deliberately awkward and playful presentation (he was joking, people), is at Indiewire. After the ceremony Matt and Lucy attended the Weinstein Company/Relativity Media party where Matt was photographed with Bruce Willis and Jake Gyllenhaal. Photos are at Zimbio and PopSugar.

That tedium makes you appreciate the high-wire moments. Matt Damon, presenting a lifetime achievement award to Robert DeNiro, pretended not to know who DeNiro was until he was cast in The Good Shepherd. The routine didn’t entirely work, and neither did DeNiro’s joking response read haltingly from a teleprompter (he mocked the HFPA too!) but I loved the freshness and irreverence, the idea that they weren’t going to swallow the sanctimonious pretense of awards shows.

  • Matt missed the start of the show as he was watching the Patriots game - as reported by The Envelope:

Matt Damon was sitting next to Robert De Niro and pretty thrilled to be presenting him with a career award. "This is nuts, right?" the actor asked. But the "True Grit" star couldn't hide a bad case of the Boston blues. "I missed the monologue -- I was watching the end of the Patriots game. I can't believe they lost. There's a great disturbance in the Force," he said. He couldn't stop replaying a first-half fake punt. "It was there, the whole right side was open." He shook his head and reached for a drink.

  • We bought a zoo starts filming in Los Angeles today.

    Globes

A few comments on the Globes:

    * Lucy and Matt were sitting with Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower in the front table. They could be seen in almost every walk to the podium and every shot from the podium. Great visibility - some stars you could barely spot all night (Hailee and Jeff maybe once each?)

    * In the 'fun shots' at the end of segments Matt and Lucy could be seen talking to Harvey Weinstein and wife Georgina, and waving and talking to someone on the podium (I think it was Edgar Ramirez from Bourne Ultimatum, who responded with a smile). Matt was also seen walking away to present and talking to Lucy, while Lucy sat for the award next to De Niro.

Another comment from the awards from Deadline:

EW loved the De Niro/Matt combination, NY Times didn't, but David Carr of the NY Times did:

Matt Damon is the greatest, most remarkably normal guy in the biz. And he is killing it introducing DeNiro's award.

BTW, can anybody access PicApp? I'm blocked from registering and can't access the images. http://www.picapp.com/

During last nights Golden Globes they showed a new trailer for Adjustment Bureau. It didn't look very good, I have no hope for this movie, but be on the lookout for a new trailer popping up on the internet soon.

    Matt at the Globes

Matt playing clueless movie boy was hilarious in his intro to DeNiro, especially the placing of DeNiro as the 13-year-old hooker in "Taxi Driver". DeNiro's rejoinder appreciating Matt's performance in "The Fighter" really cracked me (and Matt) up--and I'll bet it infuriated Wahlberg!

I actually liked the trailer for TAB, but I worry that they are still trying to trade off Bourne. Perhaps the next trailer will clue everyone in more about the substance of the film. We can only hope. It's a good script, and if the critics will get behind it and give it some buzz (and if Matt would just go schmooze in Hollywood with the buzz-makers), he could have a hit.

Just coming to post that. It's not bad, but expectations for anything to do with Universal are very low. Like the kiss.

I loved it when De Niro said that Matt will be getting his own Cecil B. DeMille Award. Can't agree with that more!
