Elysium, Clinton Concert
  • Photos of Matt walking to his trailer on (possibly) his last day of Vancouver filming for Elysium are at Zimbio, via Punkd Images. Matt's walking with his costumer Barnaby and assistant Colin.

  • A casting call for Mexican extras for Elysium is at Extras Casting Mexico.

  • A quote from producer Jerry Weintraub about the Liberace film:

Adds Weintraub, "I've wanted to make a film about Liberace for a very long time, and after the amazing experience I had with HBO on ‘His Way,’ I knew that they were absolutely the right place for this movie. I am thrilled that we have the incomparable Michael Douglas to inhabit the role of Liberace, as well as the exceptional Matt Damon to play the pivotal part of Scott Thorson. Putting these two fine actors in the creative hands of Steven Soderbergh -- it doesn’t get better than that!"

  • Matt participated in a Funny Or Die video shown at the Clinton Foundation Concert over the weekend. The video is available at Yahoo.com, with stills below. Matt appears to have filmed his part without the other actors in the room.

Just for laughs: Clinton’s Hollywood fans provided a video spoof staged at his foundation’s New York office, where Ben Stiller led a lame brainstorming session with such activists as Matt Damon and Ted Danson. Sean Penn’s proposal? “Do not steal my lunch from the break room fridge.” Impersonating Clinton, Kevin Spacey calls in and deems the ideas brilliant before the real Clinton arrives clutching Penn’s lunch.

“The film was a hoot, wasn’t it?” Clinton said after the screening. “I’m going to spend the rest of my life trying to steal Sean Penn’s lunch…I want to thank Kevin Spacey, who really can do me better than I can.”

  • A quote from Sean Penn from a recent Piers Morgan interview:

MORGAN: What to you is great acting?
PENN: Well, let's see. I think probably -- it's, you know, I could like -- Philip Seymour Hoffman is as great an actor as -- as we've ever had. I mean I think that--
    MORGAN: Do you think that?
    Really?
PENN: Yes. Yes. And -- and, by the way, some handsome guys like Matt Damon are, too.

    Clinton Foundation

Absolutely hilarious! Thank you for posting!

    Re: Clinton Foundation

I thought it was really poor, badly cut, and not funny. It may be the improv project that was mentioned by a comedian on Twitter a few weeks ago.

A report on how the actors filmed separately (apart from the obvious three):

    Re: Shortlist interview

I wrote the above comment about Ben. (and I'm not a Ben hater, either). I'm just saying what I see.

    Re: Shortlist interview

I wrote the comment below and I wanted to clarify what I said. I was in no way trying to imply you were a Ben hater. I agree with your statement not because I hate Ben but because I see a contrast also when they speak of each other. Also I find people get touchy when it comes to ben. I've seen it on here. Nothing personal against him but I agree with the observation.

Ok let's get back to talking about Matt. Lol. He has been spotted at starbucks today in ny.

    Ask Men List

Matt is at #40 of Ask Men.com's Most Influential Men list of 2011:
    http://au.askmen.com/specials/2011_top_49/49-simon-cowell.html#40

Why is Matt Damon no 40?
Matt Damon was one of Barack Obama’s biggest supporters throughout his 2008 presidential campaign, but he has since jumped off the president’s bandwagon, becoming one of his most vocal celebrity critics. Does Damon think he can do a better job than the embattled leader? Michael Moore sure does. The lefty filmmaker has publicly urged the actor to run for office, and based on Damon’s recent caught-on-film criticisms of education in America, the Iraq war and taxes -- all as articulate as anything Obama has said all year -- the Oscar-winning actor might be up to the task. If not, he always has that whole movie star thing to fall back on.

    Just some random thoughts....

I found the Clinton video funny but it was like a stupid funny. Does that make sense?
I don't know about anybody else but I'm tired of the question of when Matt & Ben will work together again. I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later. And I do agree with the above comment about Ben. (and I'm not a Ben hater). And this has happened on twitter a few times already but why do people confuse Matt with Matt dillon. They don't look alike but guess the names are similar.
Also Matt is still in NYC because he was spotted at the gym. (i'm sure you already know that though :). Alright that's the end of my rambling.

    New project with John Krasinski

And it's not Father Daughter Time:

@TheInSneider: Exclusive; Matt Damon to direct untitled Warner bros drama. He and John krasinski to star, write and produce

Matt Damon to direct, star in drama with John Krasinski
Matt Damon will make his feature directorial debut in an untitled drama at Warner Bros. that he and John Krasinski co-wrote and will star in, Variety's Jeff Sneider and Justin Kroll exclusively report. Project will be set up at Krasinski’s Sunday Night Productions banner. Krasinski came up with the idea and developed the concept with author Dave Eggers. Damon plays a salesman who arrives in a small town only to have his whole life called into question, but additional plot details weren't available.

Re: New project with John Krasinski

Another report with more details is at the Hollywood Reporter:
    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/matt-damon-john-krasinski-250753

Father Daughter Time is still in development at WB and either project could get underway first.

    Other comments:
    * new project has a budget of about $12 million
    * project said to be still in the early stages of development
    * could shoot on the east coast in the near future
    * legal drama
    * producer is Chris Moore
    * presumably there are ties in the film to wind turbines

I really like the Damon/Krazinski friendship. I am looking forward to whatever project they do.

    Agreed!

I wonder if the 'legal drama' is based on real events...I'd think they'd be very good together in a well-written comedy as well, they're both so funny.

I'm excited for both of Matt's future projects...I wonder who'll be cast as his daughter in 'Father-Daughter Time'. I immediately thought of Hailey Steinfeld, but I suppose that'd be a bit repetitive. Hopefully someone equally great.

PS: Any word yet on filming locations in Mexico for Elysium? Do you think they'd film on the west coast in Baja, seeing as 'Baja Dunes' is the not-so-secret- code title for the film?
mattdamoncolumn From: mattdamoncolumn Date: October 20th, 2011 10:23 am (UTC) (Link)
I haven't seen anything yet about locations in Mexico, and it wasn't mentioned on the casting notice (which probably indicates the filming will be in or near Mexico City). First and second unit filming in Vancouver for Elysium definitely finished last Sunday.

The reports about the new project make it sound like Erin Brockovich or A Civil Action, which I presume is inaccurate.
