  • Matt and John are on the cover of the new issue of the Improper Bostonian.

Van Sant’s film, it’s true, feels as unfussy as a drink of lemonade. While the character actors lick their chops over their lines, there’s a goodly amount of weather, flags and landscapes molded by combine harvesters. And of people washing their faces in moments of mucked conscience. The movie is a morality play dressed in shots of Americana. “What it did for me was that every time I do a film now, I’m going to prepare for it as a director,” says Damon. “I’m going to think about it as if I were directing it in detail, how all the choices influence everything in big and little ways.”

  • Clips from Monday's interview with Jay Leno are available at the Hollywood Reporter, Monsters and Critics and the Huffington Post.

  • A long interview by Mike Fleming is available at Deadline, including:

DEADLINE: I watched last week as Brad Pitt’s bankability got questioned after Killing Them Softly tanked. How much do stars like you and Brad worry about taking on projects like that or Promised Land? You see them as specialty pictures made at a price, but if they fail, they go down in the loss column.

DAMON: Some actors don’t make these movies for exactly that reason. I couldn’t bear to have a career like that. These are exactly the kind of movies I like to go see. That might put me in the minority of the movie-going public, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t make them. In writing Promised Land, John and I talked a lot about films like Local Hero and The Verdict, a movie I absolutely love. I don’t know what that movie would do today, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love to be in The Verdict.

  • Matt talked about The Monuments Men to Access Hollywood, but didn't discuss his role.

that magazine cover is overly photoshopped! I saw it and immediately thought "Matt isnt that tall". If you compare the premiere pictures you can clearly see the top of Matt's head reaching John's eyebows. Yet ok then over Matt surpasses them. Also Matt's pose is standing up while John sits down, I think that's also to make Matt appear taller.

Does anyone know Lucy's height? I know Matt is 5'7

Matt's 5'10" (and a half, he said in one Ripley interview).

The focus and perspective of the cover would be off if the heights were accurate.

When Matt talked about his daughters wants presents, i wonder do any of his daughters are any interest in Barbie? Because i'm a Barbie person, i collect them!

    Interviews

The most ignorant question I've seen so far in an interview is by Shaun Robinson of Access Hollywood, who asked Matt if he had seen Argo. Matt's reaction was fairly priceless but somehow polite.

    Deadline interview

Mike Fleming's interview is the most interesting I saw so far. Basically 'cause includes all the possible topics (including football).
How awesome would be have the Nolan's brothers behind the return of Jason Bourne! (Apparently, Bourne isn't over for Matt)

    Re: Deadline interview

It most likely is, but he's just being polite. I would be happy to never see another Bourne question being asked (and answered the same way as it has been for five years).

    Re: Deadline interview

I cannot agree with you more. I'm so tired of the Bourne questions. I wish he would just say he's done with Bourne.

Being that John is doing jimmy kimmel tomorrow I wonder if its possible matt can make a surprise appearance. It would be perfect timing.

    Leno

I don't know why Matt bothers to give Leno any of his time. Leno only wants his stalest stories so he can slap on his prefab comments. When Matt goes on Letterman it's always so much fun because the host isn't asleep!

    Re: Leno

I'm still waiting for the interview to go online.

    Matt's Height

I was in attendance at the PGA screening last night and stood right next to Matt! I'm 5'10 3/4 and his eye level is lower than mine. I'd say he's 5'9". Matt was soft-spoken, youthful, and funny. He does an excellent imitation of Harvey Weinstein too!!

    Q&A

Thanks for the report. How enthusiastic were Matt and John? They've been doing at least one Q&A per night for probably two weeks now. I would expect they are exhausted and very tired of telling the same stories.

    Re: Q&A

Well Matt did Leno, than he must've met up with John and Gus at Grauman's Chinese Theater for the VARIETY screening, then the entourage (minus Gus) came to ArcLight Hollywood for the PGA screening. They arrived in a large black SUV with John in back and Matt sitting shotgun next to the driver. They arrived with Jennifer and like 6 FOCUS Features peeps and 4 security (excessive). They seemed a bit tired, but still friendly. Matt was rather quiet, but lit up when he was offered a bucket of popcorn. The Q&A was super redundant and John was on autopilot with answers while Matt remained quiet. Matt responded energetically to two questions asked, 1- How he'd vote if he were in the gymnasium on the other side of his character (he didn't really answer and just said the film was meant as an opportunity for discussion among people, just as the characters in the film have to make decisions for themselves) 2- Then the question regarding why it's rated R came up, and he said cause of language just like Good Will Hunting was rated R for language, then he lit into a HILARIOUS imitation of Harvey Weinstein and how Harvey told him and Ben that if Good Will were PG13 it'd attract more audience and Matt said he said OK Harvey so what do we have to do? Harvey said you're only allowed 2 uses of word *uck. Matt asked well how many do we have to remove from the script? Harvey replied 145!! (everyone laughed). He also also mentioned that when he dropped out of being director so did funding from Warner Bros (so he fired himself, and lost financing). I wondered just how tired they both are too since it's been non-stop. Matt seemed very youthful in spirit, like a college kid, and he's quite soft-spoken too.

    Re: Q&A

i posted a very grainy photo from the q&a on instagram last night if you look up the hashtag #mattdamon and the caption with PGA in it, that's mine!

    Re: Q&A

Thanks very much for the report. So many people have attended the Q&A sessions but there has been only one half-decent write-up that I've seen before your great comments.

Even the person who gave them popcorn wrote about it on Twitter.

    Re: Articles

I laughed when he read the comment about his butt. I've read posts before on that subject but to actually know he knows about it is funny to me. In that sag conversation( which was very good btw) he says he doesn't read comments because they are awful. I'm guessing this was just a bit for the Leno show.
I'm looking forward to the rest of the clip being posted.

    Re: Articles

The comments bit was really an extension of John's speech at the Gotham Awards. Funny though - I haven't yet seen how it tied into the Obama comments.

his comment in the press junket interview about his first big purchase on Calvin Klein boxer briefs was HILARIOUS and that he couldn't wait till laundry day so he could re-wear his 1 pair.

    Re: Articles

LOL, I'd never heard him tell it!! but i can relate. it's funny how he admits it. he's so disarming and when he said *uck during the PGA q&a he realized he'd cursed but then mumbled well you just heard it in the movie and then said it again LOL
