    Great Wall officially announced

    http://variety.com/2015/film/news/matt-damon-leads-cast-of-legendarys-the-great-wall-1201450991/#

Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal and Willem Dafoe have been confirmed to star in Legendary’s “The Great Wall,” the company announced Wednesday.

Notable Chinese actors Andy Lau, Jing Tian, Zhang Hanyu, Eddie Peng, Lu Han, Lin Gengxin, Zheng Kai, Chen Xuedong, Huang Xuan and Wang Junkai will make up the rest of the cast for the production, which is being positioned as the largest film ever to shoot entirely in China for global distribution.

    http://deadline.com/2015/03/great-wall-movie-zhang-yimou-cast-set-matt-damon-andy-lau-1201391014/#

A former pop star is in the cast (Lu Han) and that will get most of the twitter attention from now until the November 2016 release (that's actually very smart casting). Production will start at the end of March. The most recent draft is from Tony Gilroy.

Well, now that it's official all we can do is keep our fingers crossed on that one.

Such fears for this one as it just looks like a $135 million bomb in the making. And he chose this over 'Manchester by the sea'.

    Re: Great Wall officially announced

It's a movie about hidden monsters set in China and filmed entirely in China by a talented Chinese director who works mostly in beautiful but pointless martial arts epics.

The Great Wall's amazing and I've been to one part of it, but it's a hugely risky project with a pretty small chance of it working (not exactly a safe bet).

    Re: Great Wall officially announced

It is true that some Zhang Yimou's more recent work is not as revered as his earlier magnificent classics, like Ju Dou and Raise the Red Lantern (one of my top 50 movies), but dismissing him as some sort of Chinese Michael Bay is ... not correct.

He's a truly great director, with ambition, sensitivity, and insight into the human condition. Martial arts movies represent a small fraction of the work he has done, and Hero, one of those movies, is at something like 96% on Rottentomatoes. His recent movie Coming Home (about China's disastrous cultural revolution) was critically very well received.

I also have misgivings about the 'saleability' of the concept in the west, but I have absolutely no doubt that it will be beautifully shot, and will probably do very well in China, the world's second largest market. Hopefully Yimou learned something about working on Chinese-American joint projects from the (admittedly quite poor) movie he did with Christian Bale. But, hey, working with Matt will be a dream compared to working with Bale. Lol.

OK, didn't realise he did Raise the Red Lantern as part of his earlier work. He certainly has talent and I hope he can bring the components together in this film.

    Cute old pic

This is totally out of context, it's an old pic and maybe some of you saw it at that time when Matt received his star on the Walk of Fame in 2007. Personnaly I didn't, so I discover it now, but this is so cute that I absolutely wanted to share this with you:

Lol! Isn't it the first sighting of a so bearded Matt? Of course, when you're alone on Mars, fighting to survive, shaving isn't your priority! He looks great.
All these pics about Petra are terrific, this place is wonderful. I wish I was there with the crew... Have a look on Google Earth and search Wadi Rum , you'll see it's fantastic.
