Re: Tommy Lee Jones

Good Ol' Boys was really back in the day, 1995 to be exact. There is a clip online which has a fair amount of Matt in it. His character's name was "Cotton", ha.

Tommy Lee is a great actor and formidable presence, but honestly he seems too old to play a Noah Vosen type character. Maybe a Scott Glenn or Albert Finney type?

Re: Tommy Lee Jones

I bought "Good Ole Boys" off Amazon a while back. It was a very slow moving film, but there are a few good scenes in it. He filmed the TNT movie after School Ties and Geronimo. His first leading role was also in a TNT movie "Rising Son" which I wish they'd release on DVD it reminds me of East of Eden.

On "Good Ole Boys" Matt said this in the 1998 issue of Details magazine, "At nineteen I did a TNT movie for $25,000 [Rising Son]. Five years later; after two feature shots, here I was getting $20,000 for another TNT movie. Talk about a lesson in humility - somebody was obviously trying to tell me something."

Where's Waldo?

And to further muddle up the question of "Where in the world is Matty D?" The Daily Mail claims he's in LA.

Martian

OMG, how great is this from an LA Times story on the impact of TIFF on the Oscar race!?

"We've seen a rough cut of Ridley Scott's sci-fi survival story, and it's pretty great. Look for comparisons to 2013 TIFF outer space sensation "Gravity" as well as raves for Matt Damon's lead turn as a stranded astronaut."

Aggghhh!! Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!

Re: Martian

Exciting! And there's a cover story in Total Film with new photos online.

It took me a while to remember I'm currently in the UK and can pick up a copy (greetings from freezing cold Birmingham!)

Re: Martian

The artistic rendering of the two subscription Total Film covers are exquisite. Do I understand correctly that Ridley Scott drew them?

Re: Martian

Total Film's Facebook page has higher resolution versions of the two magazine covers drawn by Ridley!

It looks like the regular magazine cover is not drawn, but it's still a cool photo of Matt in spacesuit featured here at the bottom left
http://www.gamesradar.com/exclusive-new-images-martian/

Someone online pointed out that in some of these still shots from the movie there are plants. I hadn't noticed, but especially in one of the newest photos released by Total Film, you do see vegetation in the desert beyond Matt sitting.

Re: Martian

The vegetation was present in some of the earlier shots as well, I'm sure if these bits make it into the movie they'll be edited out.

I can't believe the quote from the LA Times about The Martian has not been more widely circulated! C'mon, Matt's publicist! Everybody should post that quote around if you can on social media and comment sections, since apparently Matt's team and The Martian promoters are asleep at the switch. :-[ you can be sure Leo's publicist would have flogged that to death.

"We've seen a rough cut of Ridley Scott's sci-fi survival story, and it's pretty great. Look for comparisons to 2013 TIFF outer space sensation "Gravity" as well as raves for Matt Damon's lead turn as a stranded astronaut." LA Times

"Pretty great" and "raves". That's a pretty ringing endorsement of the likely quality of the movie and Matt's performance, right? And where have I seen it quoted? Nowhere! If the LA Times made this comment about one of Leo's upcoming movies you'd see it reposted all over social media, in every online comments section, all over the movie's IMDB page, and referenced in every subsequent article. And it's not like it's actually fans doing that, it's his press people. I know Matt likes to keep it low key, but this is so frustrating to me. In today's world you have to work to get attention. More attention = better jobs. I think Leo is pretty much a creep, but his press coverage is fawning. If steams me that Matt, who is not only a better, more versatile actor, but a hugely better human being, gets shoved into the corner and constantly underrated.

Sorry, end of rant. You asked:-)

Re: Martian

Oh! I see what you're saying. No offense to anyone who is a fan of Leo's but I agree he's a creep. Well despite that positive review, I don't think the movie promoting has a thing to do with Matt's publicist (We've all seen her and recognize her often attending events with Matt, Jennifer Allen, of Viewpoint Publicity). The promoting would fall on FOX since they are distributing the film. The marketing thus far does seem a bit light, but we are just now approaching the two month mark. I was surprised it wasn't repped to the hilt at Comic Con. A friend who attended said that's because The Martian doesn't match the ComicCon demographic. When I asked her to explain she said The Martian will appeal to an older demographic.

I guess like Gravity it's being considered a smarter/intellectual Sci Fi than Elysium fair.
Since its world premiere is at TIFF I guess it follows suit. I know movie chains around the U.S. have huge cardboard displays of the poster art and people on Instagram have been posting pics with Matt's face.

The Onion

The Onion posted a hilarious spoof article today on Matt losing $500 on bad headshots! Including a "candid" photo of him possibly sitting in his kitchen. The photo looks to be taken mid-2014 since his hairstyle is pre-Project Greenlight Finalist red carpet event in November.

Re: The Onion

Gregory, I'm very sorry but do you still have "Come To Papa - Halloween 10/6/14" episode? I downloaded your "Come To Papa - Panic - 11/4/14" episode from soundcloud, but I could't access to halloween episode. I guess it's expired. Could you re-upload halloween episode on soundcloud?

Re: The Onion

I still have all 3 shows! I attended all of them too, but recorded the audio from the Sirius XM. However, the links expired cause I had a free trial account of sound cloud. If you want to provide your email address I can email you the audio for the Halloween episode via WeTransfer.com (signup is free). The Christmas episode is on www.cometopapalive.com

Yep, it will give you the option to sign up for free. You can then access & download the file. File is too big to email directly. I just sent it to ya, if it's not in your Inbox, check junk/spam folder for an email from WeTransfer.

Total Film

The Total Film mag was released today. It's a 10 page article with lots of photos, including one of a shirtless Matt fixing his wounds. It's mostly about Ridley's attention to detail, absence of green screen, detailed sets etc. Matt calls Ridley lovely, the space suits are horrible to work in, everyone wants to be true to the book. The author of the article made two set visits.

But seriously, MUST HAVE THIS ARTICLE! Does anyone know if Barnes & Noble in the U.S. carry Total Film?

Re: Out and about

Woah, I'm sure he nor Lucy missed all that flash in Beijing. He's always polite, saying Cruise's new release of Mission is "great". Remember when he spoke to Playboy mag and said he had a fear of heights and could never have scaled the building like Cruise? And then going on to compliment Cruise on his cool running capabilities, lol.

Thanks for the video!

Yeah, how can they even see to walk down the street with all those flashes? I was also struck by how classy it was for Matt to immediately compliment Cruise's movie, Gregory.

OT: Jeremy Renner/Bourne

I have an interest in back stage Hollywood maneuvering, so I found this article on Jeremy Renner interesting, especially so since Bourne filming is about to commence. It could easily be subtitled, "Why Jeremy Renner is Never Going to Be Tom Cruise or Matt Damon"
