    The Martian

It's been great seeing the movie promoted so intelligently. Loving the fact that several NASA people attended the premier and that Andy Weir and Drew Goddard were also invited to the press conference.

    NPR review

    http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2015/09/matt-damon-the-martian-oscar

    Oscar speculation at VanityFair:

"Matt Damon. It can’t be overstated what an asset Damon is to the The Martian. As Mark Watney, the titular astronaut trapped on Mars, Damon carries huge chunks of the film all by himself"

"It’s Tom Hanks in Cast Away plus some Jason Bourne inventiveness, and as good proof as there’s even been of what an invaluable movie star Damon is. He hasn’t had a lead actor Oscar nomination since Good Will Hunting; The Martian is the perfect opportunity to fix that."

"But by premiering so early and endearing us all so quickly, Damon is well-positioned to have staying power throughout the fall’s scrum."

"Why does disco help? Because The Martian can presumably compete at the Golden Globes in the comedy category, and we hear that 20th Century Fox plans to do just that. Without having to go up against the heavy dramas of the season, The Martian can rack up a few nominations there and bolster its standing in the race. Hey, it’s an option that definitely wasn’t available to Interstellar."

    Videos

E online has a few videos of Matt talking about his 'Bourne body' and upcoming birthday plans. For the birthday he looks back at Lucy and says they'll probably get dinner. He's proud of the Bourne body but barely looks awake - looks to have been filmed very late on a press day in Toronto.

    Australian release date change???

An Australian article (mostly taken from other sources) mentions the release date for The Martian is now out 26 November (instead of 1 October). NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. That would be a later date than Turks and Caicos.

Hoping not, but can't confirm it yet.

    Matt on Bourne/Cross

Matt simultaneously gives a graciously tactful comment and evisceratingly commonsense dig at the idea of a Bourne/Cross "team up".

I include the quote because it's fabulous. Matt to the Toronto Sun:

(When asked about Bourne and Aaron Cross). There were some thoughts of having Bourne and Cross team up in the next film, but it proved too problematic to pull off.

“We didn’t want to mess with their mythology at all because it’s its own thing, and we obviously would never want to get in the way of that,” said Damon. “To try to factor in a whole other character and storyline seemed like a bridge too far.”

Also tricky is the fact that Renner’s The Bourne Legacy is set in 2004, the same timeframe as the two Bourne movies before it. Damon’s Bourne will have naturally aged since the events of the last film, but only three years have passed since Renner played Aaron Cross.

“So do you age Jeremy 12 years? So Aaron Cross is now 52? They’d have to figure that part out too,” said Damon. “But that’s above my pay grade.”

    You tell 'em, Matty

    Re: Matt on Bourne/Cross

That was very tactful, but Matt's getting some negative feedback on twitter for a comment about diversity in the first Project Greenlight episode (it was included in most of the preview articles).

    Tom Brady, Snapchat and emojis

Matt has given a longer response to a comment about Tom Brady than anything else I've seen from the junket:

    http://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/names/2015/09/13/matt-damon-talks-tom-brady-toronto/iK1QEICVE55fqQJikDKItO/story.html

Does anyone have a link to the snapchat interview with Matt, or know how you can access it? I presume you need to have a snapchat account?

This is apparently part of it:

    Ridley

Ridley talks about why Matt was right for the film:

    http://deadline.com/2015/09/ridley-scott-the-martian-star-wars-2001-alien-blade-runner-prometheus-toronto-film-festival-1201522484/

DEADLINE: Sandra Bullock did it in Gravity, Tom Hanks in Cast Away and Will Smith in I Am Legend, but not every actor is watchable for long periods, by themselves. How did you know he would be?
SCOTT: His body of work. I’ve watched everything he’s done and he’s a very thinking actor and he never does anything just because he thinks it’s going to be commercial. Story is as important to him as it is with me. I always say my plan is, there is no plan. I read something and say, wow, I like that, and if I can get it, I’ll do it. Matt’s body of work has been so seamless that I knew he could handle it.

    Ridley didn't read the book!

    The Martian

I knew that Anne Thompson was positive about the movie but hadn't seen this from her:

Coming back from workaday efforts on "Exodus" and "Prometheus," this is Scott at his best. "The Martian" (October 2) should please both audiences and Oscar voters, and the Actors branch should recognize Damon, while Scott, Goddard and tech categories also deserve praise.

    More reviews

More positive reviews are coming in (it's 96% fresh now on rotten tomato)

    http://www.popularmechanics.com/culture/movies/a17319/the-martian-review/

I am not sure if anyone posted this before. Lee Hutchinson, a journalist from Ars Technica who wrote couple of articles about the Martian before went to TIFF just for the Martian (apparently Fox invited him). Here are his reports from Toronto:

    The Review:
    http://arstechnica.com/the-multiverse/2015/09/the-martian-brings-science-largely-unchanged-from-book-to-screen/

Interview with Andy, Ridley, and Jim Green (the NASA consultant).

This hopefully will assure the book fans about the movie and they will all turn up at the theater on Oct 2nd. I know I will but I am biased.

    Bourne, NY Times

Matt says there will only be one other shirtless scene (or filming day) in Bourne:
