London premiere, interviews
  • Matt attended the London premiere of The Martian on Thursday and then filmed The Graham Norton Show and other interviews before flying back to Tenerife. Lucy did not attend the premiere. An interview from the premiere is available here.

  • A good interview with Matt is at USA Today, including:

In person, "he's so charming, he's so funny," Chastain says. "It's like yes, I believe the entire world would come together to rescue Matt Damon."

A solo performance is a notch on the belt for the star, who first wowed Scott with his sly, deft performance in 1999's The Talented Mr. Ripley. Chastain calls Damon a character actor hidden in a movie star's body. "He always plays these really interesting characters," she says. "You look at his career and you look at The Informant and you look at Behind the Candelabra. … He really is one of the best we have."

Here on Earth, Damon, his wife and four children are settled in to life in Los Angeles, having moved from New York two years ago. A proud smile crosses his face when he talks about his kids. "My oldest daughter just got her license yesterday," he says. He taught her how to drive. "She would drive last year just to school every morning. We'd get in the car and drive."

But we never see pictures of Damon's brood – ever. Damon famously avoids A-list watering holes, and he manages to keep a low profile, even in paparazzi-laden Hollywood. "He's very happy having a private life, which I really respect," Chastain says.

    Filming Bourne
Even still, "it's different at 44," he admits. "I've been on a strict diet and training like crazy. So I'm in better shape than I ever was for the other ones. Also Paul was really specific about wanting the character: If the movie opens and the first frame of me looks like a guy has been living too well" -- he grins -- "the movie's over."

  • Other interviews are at the SF Gate, NY Daily News, NZ Herald and NME.

  • Quotes from the Graham Norton interview are the Evening Standard.

  • A video interview with Matt is available at the ABC's 7.30 Report site and below.

    The hair

Matt mentions his hair extensions for Great Wall (for the first time I think):

    Re: Interview

Good interview and outtake photo from TIFF photoshoot. Maybe they will still make an anti-mobster movie someday!

Favorite line in the interview regarding Bourne:

Damon credits fans with getting the film made.

“It was a real factor in doing it — that people really wanted to see it. . . . Building an audience that’s really loyal and really loves it — that’s nothing to kind of turn your nose up at.”

    Graham Norton show

Does anyone know where i can find last nights Graham Nortan with The Martian cast?

And i wonder if last nights was anything like a couple years ago when he went on with the cast of The Monuments men, it was funny because Matt and Bill Murray seemed to be a bit tipsy!!

    RE: Graham Norton show

I can't concentrate on Matt in the ABC 7.30 show because the host is so distracting. She's like a female Harry Potter/fashion victim with a sort a strange glazed expression. Is that woman OK? Because she seems not OK.

I think the Graham Norton show not on in Britain until tonight, after which there might be some video bits floating around. But this is kind of cool - Norton on a morning talk show talking about Matt (saying lovely things of course) . He also talks about his worst guest, David Cassidy.

    Re: Graham Norton show

Sabra on 7.30 Report was the stand-in post for Leigh Sales, who has interviewed Matt previously in person. It's a serious political current affairs show and good exposure to a different market (but it aired on a Friday, so fewer people would watch).

    Matt on Graham Norton

    Good news, Damonites!

The Graham Norton Show has uploaded several clips featuring Matt. They talk about the ponytail (which Matt calls 'that thing'), Bourne, winning the Oscar, etc. Terrific stuff! Here's just one, but they're up at YouTube if you search recents for Graham Norton Matt Damon.

The whole episode of Graham Norton is on YouTube, but it probably won't last for long.

RE: Re: Matt on Graham Norton

Thanks so much, that's awesome! Matt certainly has the lion's share of the show, and comes across wonderfully. Ha, ha, when Jasin Boland's shirtless shot of Matt-as-Bourne came up Jessica Chastain said, "Oh my Gosh!" You and me both, sister. Ha. Exploding ovaries! (tee hee)

    Re: Matt on Graham Norton

Thanks for sharing! I'm downloading it now off youtube. If it gets removed, let me know and I can try to send it to you. Fun episode!! A lot more attention on Matt than when he was on for Monuments Men. His story about Oscar night was moving. That's our Matty!

    Oct 2 Matchup

Keeping my fingers crossed for Matt and "The Martian" as they come up against "Sicario" and Emily Blunt whichis going wide and has been doing gangbusters in limited release! Odd that these stars are going against each other given their history. Guess it's all up to the studios!

    LA Times

Interview at the LA Times which could have been worded better, but has some good quotes:

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/la-ca-mn-matt-damon-20150927-story.html

"In a funny kind of way, Matt is almost the perfect representative of the American," Scott said last month. "He's fair, he's sweet, he's firm, he's intelligent, and he's a very can-do kind of guy."
