    Critics Choice Awards

Unfortunately, The Martian doesn't has many chances to win in any of the main categories in which it's nominated. The race for best actor seems to be defined. I wanted Drew Goddard to win last night, but in its category, The Big Short is the favorite. The DGA are coming, but I don't think Ridley has a real chance there.
So, that leaves us with the special effects category at the Oscars. They may win something there, but Star Wars, Mad Max and The Revenant will be a strong competition. FOX had a dilemma this year, and it's quite clear now, they chose The Revenant over The Martian.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

On the other hand, Matt and Lucy seem to have had a lovely evening.

    Real Awards

Gold statues are nice. Some winners keep them in the bathroom for company while performing necessary tasks. The Martian is winning a very large award: it will have earned well over $600,000,000 after the Japan opening. This shows how many real people thought so well of it, they paid to see it. Most movie-goers say they loved it. I, for one, won't see The Revenant. I've given up on pointless violence and CG bears (except for Po). As for the Critics' Choice, they were clearly mad for Mad Max. I laughed at quite a few of the choices, but then, I do that watching most awards shows. All of us differ at least somewhat in what we enjoy. For last year, we know we enjoyed Andy, Drew, Matt and Ridley's wonderful film. My Blu-ray 3-D copy is on the way from Amazon.

I'm sure Matt and Ridley expected very little from the Critics' Choice ravers. But, as K. has already noted, how great it is to see that Matt and Lucy seem to have had a delightful date night out lovingly wrapped up in each other. Heartwarming! Real life can also be well-experienced and directed when cast right.

    Onwards and upwards!

    Naeem Khan

An instagram post by Naeem Khan about the dress - I like how it's written as if they are both up for the award. He also posted a photo on his Facebook.

    ocial Media

    Hi, everybody.
A question: Why Matt doesn't have any social media?
From: (Anonymous) Date: January 19th, 2016 02:18 pm (UTC) (Link)

    RE: ocial Media

Somebody asked him that once in an interview and he mentioned how he doesn't want to be in the limelight,
He likes to keep his private life private and I don't blame him.
I think it would be nice if he did! I wish he had an Instagram or snapchat code we could follow...

Stella Artois is launching "Leaves a Mark" campaign at Sundance Festival, apparently, Matt will be there for a panel.

"Stella Artois Leaves a Mark at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival
Stella Artois will showcase its commitment to making a difference at this year’s Festival in Park City.

    * Water.org Co-Founders Matt Damon and Gary White will host a panel session along with Todd Allen, Global Vice President, Stella Artois. The discussion will be centered on the current global water crisis, and what needs to be done to end the long water collection journeys many women in developing countries have to make each day. "

I believe the panel will be on the 22nd. Hope we will see some reports and pictures.

    Manchester by the sea

A Variety interview with Kenneth Lonergan which discusses Matt's close role in the project, and how he was meant to direct:

    http://variety.com/2016/film/news/kenneth-lonergan-manchester-by-the-sea-margaret-1201684542/

There was a time Matt Damon was going to star in this for you but he dropped back to a producer position in the end. What level of involvement did he have in that capacity?

It was a process because first he and John Krasinski came to me. The initial idea for the story was John Krasinski’s, and Matt was going to direct it and John was going to be in it. And then I wrote the script and by that time John was doing other things and Matt was going to be in it and direct. Then he decided he was just going to be in it and he didn’t want to direct it. And then his schedule just didn’t allow him to be in it, so he said, “Well, if I’m not going to be in it the only person I’d be comfortable having do the part would be Casey, otherwise I’d rather wait a couple years and do it later. But Casey wants to do it and Casey’s available.” And somewhere along the way he persuaded me to direct it, but it hadn’t started out that way.

I think it might have been written differently if I had known I was going to direct it. I don’t know how, it’s just a different mindset. There are things I didn’t worry about. I thought, “Well, they’ll figure that out in the editing. I’m not going to direct it so I don’t have to worry about that,” and then it turned out I was the one who had to figure it out and worry about it. So he pretty much guided the project from, I would say, a pretty close involvement in making it happen to a sort of overseeing position later on. He read all the drafts, he saw all the cuts. I got his input whenever I wanted it and needed it, but he wasn’t there on a day-to-day capacity. He was the ultimate authority to go to whenever we needed help or that kind of thing.
