    Jason Bourne opens in China

Jason Bourne debuted on Tuesday in China with $12.3M.
Wednesday earned an est. -40% from debut.
    China's 2-day total is est. $18.8M.

And the movie has yet to be released in Japan and Russia, among other markets.
If these numbers hold, J.B. could even exceed the final B.O. of Ultimatum, IMO.

    Richest list

Matt's number 3 this year on the list of the richest stars, mostly due to The Martian. $55 million. I guess he had a back end deal?

Forbes won't open for me so I can't link it.

    Matt Damon $55 million
The red planet turned green: Damon's The Martian grossed a mighty $630.1 million on a $108 million budget. Damon earned handsomely from the film and nabbed a Best Actor Oscar nod, while banking sizable checks for his return as Jason Bourne and an east-west co-production, The Great Wall

Something interesting I read today in an interview Matt:
"My eldest daughter Alexia turned eighteen a few days ago. She was only four years old when I came into her life. And she is already eighteen - it's an incredible shock for me and Lucy! Alexis is not going to be an actress, even though she loves and knows movies. She is a child familiar with the process of filmmaking, and it is likely that it will connect with their future profession. But she wants to work behind the camera, not in front of her."

What Day Is alexia's Birthday ? I know it's in july and he mentioned it in an interview when he was in vegas

    3-D Bourne

I am a through-and-through 3-D buff, but even I wouldn't go see a Bourne film in 3-D if Greengrass were responsible for the cinematography. Since 3-D is more immersive, it figures that those prone to motion sickness, vertigo or similar vision-related disturbances would suffer. China goofed on this one.

    Bourne BO

    From THR:

"Overseas, however, it was Universal's Jason Bourne that likely ruled the late-summer roost with $56.8 million after opening to a stellar $50 million in China in its first six days, a series-best mark and already more than any previous Bourne film earned in the Middle Kingdom. Reuniting Matt Damon with director Paul Greengrass, Jason Bourne's worldwide total through Sunday is $347.9 million."

Bourne looks like a moderate success. Two years ago who would have thought that a wonky scientifically accurate movie about a stranded astronaut on Mars would make so much more than the return of Bourne? Whoever said "nobody knows anything" about the movie business sure nailed it!

    Bourne Box Office

Well, it's heartening to see JB has now made almost $348 million. Should be more, but at least it will be fairly profitable. Still could reach $400 or $450, but I'm not a prophet! Just hoping. Bet Matt has a back end on THIS film!

    Re: Bourne Box Office

For a movie with a production budget over $120 M. have profits, it should raise at least $400 M. theatrically.
J.B will reach that figure, basically because China.
It's underperforming in the U.S. due to several factors already discussed here (Foremost among them is the bad choice of the release date of the movie)
However, J.B. will make a profit. And probably end up collecting more than Ultimatum.
And you have to add to that the DVD sales, TV rights, etc.
    So, it will do OK.

PS: I wonder what happened to the idea of making a game based on the series.

Thanks. I hadn't seen before that Matt used an early acting fee to help his mother finish her doctorate (and later paid Kyle's university fees).
