International Box O - Great Wall

    From Deadline:

Legendary and Universal’s Matt Damon-starring fantasy has a total international cume of $199M through Sunday with much play still to come.

There were six openings this frame on the epic Zhang Yimou helmed China co-production. Universal now has it in 25 with an $8.8M weekend estimate for a $29.2M cume to date. Adding in another $1.2M in China (cume $160M+), where Legendary East is handling, the full offshore frame was $10M. France opened to No. 1 with $2.3M at 361 dates, on pace with Wrath Of The Titans and well ahead of Dracula Untold, Gods Of Egypt, Immortals and 47 Ronin. Germany was a No. 2 bow with $2M at 501 dates. There, it’s in line with Wrath, Dracula Untold and Immortals, and above Gods Of Egypt and 47 Ronin.

Re: International Box O - Great Wall

In America have shown a trailer on TV? Because networks have filled in messages "why Matt Damon plays the Samurai? " In other countries his role perceive normally. Just nonsense. The result has turned out opposite to on what creators of the movie counted.

RE: Re: International Box O - Great Wall

The fact that it has opened fairly well in Europe astounds me. First in France and second in Germany?! Obviously Matt is doing his job and putting butts in the seats internationally. So, the strategy of hiring an A list western star with a "class" reputation is helping the public reception tremendously. Can't expect it to be a big financial hit but the concern that it would be an enormous flop appears to have faded. I expect the Chinese will tweak this model and continue on with it.

And yes, there have been some ads on US TV. I expect it will do poorly here.

RE: Re: International Box O - Great Wall

America is sinking fast both intellectually and culturally as far as I'm concerned and the rise of social media and social justice warriors who don't know their ass from their elbow has contributed to this problem.

Look at The Last Samurai, that movie was released in 2005 which seems like ages ago where social media was in its infancy. Could you imagine if that film was released now, the outrage? It's ridiculous. Or a movie like Lawrence of Arabia? We are living in the most politically correct era of our time.

Yes, he looks good in spite of his coughing fits. Very preppy-ish in his sweater vest-y thing. Undoubtedly trying to stay warm!

    - lol, that shirt is hilarious! It's great that they still have such a good sense of humor about themselves. Knowing you, I expect you will get it autographed! Good luck!

Dude was toughing it out like-uh-boss! 💪🏼🙌🏼
I think every time he had a coughing fit, I would say "Awee poor matt.."
His outfit really was preppy-ish, but he was stylin' and profilin' even through the cold he has.

Matt at Davos was popular.) The story of an eyewitness :
"There are a lot of famous people here at Davos, but I have to confess I was really curious to see Matt Damon. Finally did…up (pretty) close. He really seems like a smart, caring person, who has a smile that bears an uncanny resemblance to my son...
Huge line to get into the reception where he was speaking…"

There was a lot of interviews: BBC business, Reuters, was a press conference. Matt says at 6:49. Note how actively journalists pull their smartphones)

Oh no, here we go again. There is negative press on statements made by Damon on supporting Trump now that he'll be president. I cannot find the audio clip of him saying what he did or the context in which he answered. These articles don't include the audio.

I DID find these clips where he mentions Trump in snippets

His statements were completely non-inflammatory and anyone who pretends to be outraged by them either doesn't know what he actually said (a successful America is good for the world) or is looking for clicks. End of story.
From: (Anonymous) Date: January 19th, 2017 12:28 am (UTC) (Link)
Totally agree! I got it people are upset these, but it's as if you don't say anything negative then you are pro-Trump. I am a pretty liberal person but some of these PC and extreme liberal view these days are a bit too much!
    4mattdamon From: 4mattdamon Date: January 19th, 2017 06:14 am (UTC) (Link)
I'm just really frustrated how the media right away jumps at it just becomes he's pro-democracy and patriotic. It's a fine line balancing supporting president but not necessarily agreeing with the president. He was certainly trying his best to be diplomatic. I hope it doesn't flare up anymore
From: (Anonymous) Date: January 19th, 2017 04:49 pm (UTC) (Link)
I hadn't clicked on all these links until today, but these are all good, well reported, responsible stories from reputable news agencies. They don't mischaracterize his comments at all.

These are terrific from the point of view of supporting water.org as well. What is your problem with them Gregory?

    4mattdamon From: 4mattdamon Date: January 20th, 2017 06:45 am (UTC) (Link)
Upon reflection and revisiting the articles you're right, nothing wrong with what he said or the articles themselves. I think when I saw them posted on Facebook yesterday the negative comments from people being mad at him for his "support" of Trump made me think it was going to cause a "shit storm" in the press for him. And I also thought some of his statements would get twisted in other social media forums.

It is not surprising. I understand that America has divided into two camps. Bad said about Trump - will be unhappy some. Said something good-will be unhappy with others. Many people read only the headlines that are taken out of context. Nothing new.

    Video re Stella partnership

A very effective 50 second vid in which Matt outlines the Stella partnership and invites public participation.

I think they could push his even better by offering one drink free, perhaps in one city for one night, or a video coupon, or something like that. Because most people out at the bar drink more than one beer. Lots of free publicity. Matt could make a funny vid advertising it.

Last year Damon hit it big with the sale of “Manchester By the Sea” to Amazon. This year, he’s returning to Park City to talk up his Water.org charity and a new partnership with Stella Artois. The film-friendly brew partners up with Jason Bourne for the next four years to provide clean water to 3.5 million people.

Saturday afternoon (Jan. 21) at the Stella Artois Lounge on Main. On Monday Jan. 23, a doc he executive produced "Bending the Arc" premieres.

    Matt & Ben

Matt lives down the street from me. I am very lucky. Our kids get together all the time—they have sleepovers and parties.
In terms of professional matters, Pearl Street Films is my and Matt’s company, which has a production card on “Manchester.” Matt is the producer. We try to produce movies together as much as we can. We share scripts and give each other advice. We watch football together and do things that people do.

    Their children have sleepovers.Soooo cute.😊
