  • From a press junket interview with ET Canada:

Matt: “You want your kids to have as much self-esteem as possible so that they make good decisions because you can’t be there for every decision. You’re just never going to be able to police decisions so you’ve got to try to fill them with enough wisdom and self-regard to make good choices,” he explains. “You want them to have integrity. I want them to be good friends to other people. I want them to be reliable and loyal, good and kind.”

    Casey Affleck Retrospective

    Hey All,
The Landmark Theater in West LA is hosting a free Casey Affleck 3 night Retrospective.
Tonight, Saturday, they did a screening of Gone Baby Gone, Sunday evening they'll screen The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and Monday evening Manchester By The Sea to be followed by a Q&A with Casey & Matt Damon!

I attended the very very lightly attended screening of Gone Baby Gone this evening. I was literally one of 4 people. But the event was kinda secretively posted on Facebook.
I plan to attend Jesse James with a friend (who's never seen it!) and of course MBTS Monday evening with Matt & Casey in attendance (so long as I can get in, which is not guaranteed) I have not seen Matt in person since August 2015.

I'll be sure to take photos since it's not a TV Show taping and camera are allowed :)

    Re: Casey Affleck Retrospective

Thanks Gregory. Finally saw Manchester and thought it was great, with a lot of hints towards Good Will Hunting, and a lovely use of New England/Boston humor. Jackson was very prominent, but where was Alexia - on screen or behind the scenes?

    Re: Casey Affleck Retrospective

I belive Alexia must've been behind the scenes!!!
I attended the second night of Casey's Retrospective in LA. I was one of 9 people HAHA to watch Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. I'm impinging that tomorrow night will be much different since Casey & Matt will be attendance.
    Wish me luck getting in!!

    Tom Petty tribute

A note on why Matt and Lucy attended the MusiCares dinner for Tom Petty (two photos at Getty):

    http://www.showbiz411.com/2017/02/11/grammy-musicares-dinner-raises-8-5-mil-as-nancy-pelosi-kevin-mccarthy-rock-out-at-same-table

Among the surprise guests dotting the audience: Matt Damon and wife Lucia, who were at a random table. Why were they there? “I’m a big Tom Petty fan,” Matt said, “and a friend of ours invited us.” Cool.

    Re: Manchester by the Sea

    Matt need's better friends

"I feel very grateful to him for allowing this opportunity to happen, but in truth he drops out of a lot of movies – most movies – so Kenneth was really the one who gave me the opportunity"- Casey Affleck on Damon

"We really didn't think he was going to do it anyway, but it's not everyday you can tell yourself, 'Thank god Matt Damon didn't do my film'," added Lonergan.

    THR Producer's Roundtable

Louie already posted this but I just got around to watching it and it is so great I am obnoxiously reposting it!

Love seeing Matt become a successful producer, and join this roundtable of greats. Hopefully he will one day make THR's roundtable as a director - then he'll have a trifecta!

Super long discussion on Manchester, including quotes by John Krasinski. Combines everything you've heard and a bit more into one article.

    RE: Re: THR Producer's Roundtable

This is awesome. Love hearing all the ins & outs. But the overt negative campaigning in the comments is disgusting.

It's an interesting juxtaposition. In the article you have the inspiring story of cooperation in the creation of art and in the comments the darkest side of greed and commerce.

    The Great Wall.

Projected to open in the U.S. and Canada with just $17 million to $19 million.
    Nightmare.

If Matt on all Shows, on which he's going to appear, will not say to the american spectators that his role is not Chinese, then his participation in these shows is useless.

    Interview

Lots of interviews are up on YouTube. Here is the extended version of the E interview (I don't think it was posted before?), kind of cute. The fierce horse riding Matt describes is literally the only thing attracting me to this movie. The interviewer here is soooo giddy. Lol.

Re: Great Wall interview (funny- incredibly cringe worthy)

Just a question..Who did Matt Damon cross at Variety? They have been full of snark towards him for a while.Their article on the film is slanted at the least.
The Great Wall it has made $224M at the box office. If it's budget was $150M with three companies sharing the cost, it has made that back plus a profit.
The hatred towards this film has been propaganda at its finest.
mattdamoncolumn From: mattdamoncolumn Date: February 16th, 2017 07:02 am (UTC) (Link)

Re: Great Wall interview (funny- incredibly cringe worthy)

Nobody makes a profit at the current box office levels. Prints and advertising, let alone promotional costs, will be well over $100 million. Plus they've been really pushing up the marketing even though it's a losing cause. Everyone's losing money on this. Variety's reporting on business, and this movie has been operating at a loss and is also dreadfully conceived. Variety's doing their job.

Re: Great Wall interview (funny- incredibly cringe worthy)

Сause is not Matt. It is likely the policy of relations between China and the United States.
The movie will start to make a profit when fees will be box office to at least three budgets. And that's if you're lucky.
