    Rest In Peace Mr. Damon

Sympathy and prayers for Matt and his family in this very difficult time. Seems like his father lived a life filled with great adventures and had a deep love of his family.

A life week lived I am sure...

Re: Rest In Peace Mr. Damon

It's very painful to lose a parent you love, as many readers here know. My heart goes out to Matt in his pain. Kent seemed a good and caring man, and Matt seemed a dutiful and loving son. I grieve for them both and for everyone in their family and friends.

Thanks Abigail. I didn't include any photos with his grandchildren but there were some wonderful photos, including those from the Miami pool with Stella.

    Kent & Downsizing

My condolences go out to all the family in the loss of Kent. It's a small thing, but when I see Downszing today I will see it in Kent's honor - a man who showed the world how to continue to be a loving presence in your children's life after divorce.

I wish Kyle or Matt would write a book or article about that - I think many families could profit by Kent's example.

Group hug to Matt, his family, and our extended fan bunch here <3

Kent died on December 14. Probably, yesterday was the funeral.

For the first time this photo has appeared in Alexia's IG with the signature "my parents".
fitzgerald17 I sent you exile to personal mail.)

At Daily Mail there is article with awful heading but there are already nearly 2000 comments in which the vast majority supports Matt.

    I saw Downsizing!

Perhaps Kent's angel was on my shoulder, but I absolutely LOVED Downsizing. My impression seems to be the exact opposite of some. The first 30 minutes was just so-so but I absolutely adored the back 2/3 of the movie. It was brave and loving and bold. I love movies that say truths other movies avoid, and go places you never expected.

Matt was wonderful in Everyman mode, Waltz was Eurotrash funny, and Hong Chau deserves all the accolades she's getting in a spectacular part.

It was magic. Thanks, Matt, for helping to get this made. I laughed and cried. This movie will be a classic someday.

    ?

Sorry, but one moment haunts me. Kent Damon has died on December 14. On December 15 Matt is seen in Florida. On December 16 Lucy flies to have a rest with friends to Sweden (?). I am not sure that Matt was too there, but if was, it even more strange. Maybe Boston globe which has written first, has given incorrect figure?

    RE: ?

I don't think he was in Florida. On that same day, there was a Downsizing premiere in Tampa; if Matt was there, he would have showed up.

    About Florida

It's not unusual for people who live in the colder parts of the country to have a winter home in Florida. Kent could easily have been commuting back and forth for treatments.

    RE: About Florida

I live in Florida and it is DEFINITELY not unusual for northerners to come here for the winter.. we call them “SnowBirds” 😂

The Great Wall's U.S. box office

Story in the Financial Times says that China's ownership of the AMC theater chain (through Wanda) may have discouraged rival theater chains from pushing The Great Wall...

Sorry, the link doesn't seem to want to post for me. That's the only Matt-related comment but if you're interested in China's retreat from Hollywood it's worth finding.

    Downsizing

What, more did nobody watch "Downsizing"?

    Re: Downsizing

I was happy to read The New Yorker review of "Downsizing"--mostly positive--by a critic I respect: Anthony Lane. I was particularly pleased to see his acknowledgment of Matt's acting abilities:

"Payne has not struck an apocalyptic note before, and Paul's [Matt Damon's character]transformation from a mousy dullard to a visionary who plays bongo drums at sunset. beside a fjord, is one that maybe only Damon could handle."

Lane treats the film with the seriousness a work of art deserves. Worth a read.

    Funny/interesting Downsizing article

This article postulates whether downsizing would actually create an economy in which your money would go farther. Really, it's quite a ridiculous economic argument. The movie is a satire.

But it does show that Downsizing is causing people to do what all great art inspires people to do - to get outside their own head & preconceptions & think in original ways.
