There are more pictures at Wireimage and I'll post them later.

There may be some video later on the official website, but it's probably unlikely there will be footage of the event (rather than the arrivals, which should be covered on the entertainment shows - thanks Brad).

Earlier yesterday, Mr. Damon and his filmmaking partners, Marc Joubert and Larry Tanz (pals from Boston), talked about their new $2-million (U.S.) documentary Running the Sahara, about three men (including Ottawa's Ray Zahab) who run the equivalent of two marathons a day, for roughly 75 days. Their motivation for crossing the Sahara is to raise awareness of the country's plight and indomitable spirit. It will be directed by Academy Award winner James Moll.

Mr. Damon also announced he and his friends are establishing a fund called Africa H2O that will be dedicated to providing poverty-stricken villages with wells and clean water.

"A child dies every 15 seconds in the world because they don't have access to clean water," Mr. Damon said. "It's truly mind-boggling, and outrageous, and unnecessary. But beyond the issue of just surviving, it's the whole issue of the quality of someone's life."

Mr. Pitt and Mr. Damon's star power at the fledgling One X One event put the charity firmly on the map, something that became evident during the auction.

The first item up for bid: a walk down the red carpet for the premiere of Ocean's Thirteen with stars Mr. Damon, Mr. Pitt and George Clooney.

The stakes were high and at $50,000, Mr. Damon, who joked that his skills as an auctioneer were fuelled by a few glasses of wine, threw in sex with his friend Mr. Pitt.

At a bid of $75,000, Mr. Pitt stood up and suggested that he himself liked that prize. When the offer was raised to $110,000, the star sought out the bidder, swept her into his arms and kissed her. The crowd erupted and the contest continued.

In the end, two top bidders, who each promised $130,000, took away prizes. The red carpet walk was assured; other specifics, however, were not outlined.

Last year, founder Ms. Adler raised $1.3-million. Given last night's enthusiasm, she was on target to bump that up considerably. She declined to give a dollar figure until the final tally could be completed.

"My goal each year?" Ms. Adler said. "Raise it a dollar more."
