    Minnie Driver

I find her comment ironic (if she actually said it) given that she wasn't so kind to Matt when she was on the BBC a few weeks ago. MP

    Re: Minnie Driver

    Really? What did she say?

(The Sun article is a collection of quotes from various sources and I don't know its origin. Hard to believe she would say something like that in all her unprincipled (dis)honesty.

    Re: Minnie Driver

She was on a late-night talk show hosted by Graham Norton, who asked her if she'd ever been dumped.

She implied (heavily prompted by Norton) that Matt dumped her because he thought Winona Ryder was more attractive than she was and he wanted to sleep with her. She never mentioned him by name but everyone knew who she was talking about, not helped by the fact that Norton stage whispered Matt's name into her ear, and it was picked up by his mike. I agree she's dishonest and thoroughly unlikeable, what Matt saw in her I'll never know. MP

    Re: Minnie Driver

I'm not sure about the timelines but I thought Matt and Minnie were over before Matt even met Winona. (Not putting any truth to this theory at all, but I don't think there's even a basis to it.)

    Thanks for the info MP

    Re: Minnie Driver

I know what I am going to say is absolutely impossible but for a moment I wished that this "dumping" thing would grow out of proportion like it did during GWH but this time to Matt's favour and would suffocate Minnie to announce to the world that she had been telling a big fat lie for 10 long years. I wonder why Matt's friends or well wishers don't say anything in public about this issue. It sure will drive some very ugly unwanted attention to Matt's life but atleast it will clear his name from this shit.

This false dumping story and that stupid Team America's "Maaaaaaaaat Daaaaaaaaamon" quote have surely made him look stupid to many.

Agreed, and you can throw in the Jimmy Kimmel non-incident as well.

    Re: Minnie Driver

O yesss, that one too. My fingures still ache to the thought of it. I wrote a good awful number of comments trying to convince people that its a setup and Matt's just a too good actor. I later scolded myself for doing so :-D

Anyone who saw Team America is probably familar with Trey Parker and Matt Stone's work, and therefore knows that they leave no stone unturned, no celebrity un-humilated. They've made fun of Ben on at least three occasions, but anyone who believes their humour is malicious, based in fact, or hurtful to celebrities, needs to have themselves a serious reality check. I'd be very surprised if Matt Damon, like Ben or George Clooney, didn't have a sense of humour about that sort of thing.

    Re: Minnie Driver

You are very right. That movie was hilarious and Matt got off very light. The funniest movie of the year when it came out. Get real, and don't take everything so seriously about Matt Damon.

    Re: Minnie Driver

We know Matt took it lightly, was amused by it and is friendly with the South Park guys etc etc.

I'm resentful of the movie because so many people have written/said (now even years later) how they cannot take Matt seriously because of the movie - there's a lingering suspicion or suggestion that he's an idiot. And people are generally stupid enough to believe even a South Park movie.

    Re: Minnie Driver

Those people are too ignorant to even worry about. They probably don't even understand movies like Syriana or the upcoming The Good Shepherd. I'm sure Matt would just laugh at them.

    Re: Minnie Driver

Timelines are wrong, they were months over when Winona came into the picture... but considering Minnie would encourage a falsehood for years it's not at all surprising that she'd come up with an alternate reason on public TV. She doesn't need a basis. After all, it simply couldn't be that Matt saw through her, right?

    She offends me profoundly.

    Re: Minnie Driver

I don't want to get into an argument with anyone here, but I am surprised by everyone's 'hatred' of a woman they don't even know. The two of them obviously had a very ugly breakup, and people want to turn her into the bad guy despite the fact that they know very little about what happened. There probably were no bad guys in the scenerio, just two people who didn't want to be together anymore.

I'm sorry to go off a little there, but all this Minnie-hating is just rediculous. She's a beautiful, talented actress, and obviously Matt saw that in her back in the GWH days.

    Re: Minnie Driver

I agree with you again. I was waiting for someone to speak some reason here. Do you not think that Matt Damon probably broke up with her? He probably initiated it for whatever reason. Yes, she is probably still somewhat bitter and jealous of his succes. So what? We've probably all got people that we have hurt in our former love lives and they're still a little mad about it. None of us know the details of what happened between them. And who knows, maybe Matt did end it rather abruptly? Maybe she thought they were together forever and going to get married and have babies. There is no reason for the Minnie bashing.

    Re: Minnie Driver

This isn't claiming to be a pro-Minnie site and I think we all know enough of what happened to have our own views.

    Enough on the subject.
From: sunnysanstar Date: November 7th, 2006 02:39 am (UTC) (Link)

Understood, and onto another subject...I was watching Fox last night and I saw the 'One' commercial. I think the 'plain and simple' approach may have been a mistake, but Matt's voiceover was very good and the end stressed its point enough. However, did anyone else tice the graininess to the film? Was it just my tv's satellite acting up, or was that intentional? If so, it gave a very cheap, home movie-ish impression that, depending on how you looked at it, worked to its favor or didn't.

Anywho, it was nice to see Matt in the commercial, as I knew he would be.

    Re: Minnie Driver

I agree i don't no what Matt saw in that woman! I don't like her..and she is dishonest. So glad i don't watch the Graham Norton show, and glad i did not watch that episode if i did ever watch it..one day! Shes so rude!

I also thought about the timelines and i agree with you i thought Matt and Minnie were over before Matt met Winona?!But like said not not putting any truth to that theory! (But shes (dis)honest anyhow...so to me like that thing on Graham Norton is gonna be true!IMO) and what you said 'MP'about the dumping thing growing out of proportion, and going in Matt's favor i agree and wish..i would want Minnie at last to tell the truth and to clear Matt's name of this shit! He would get some attention for a little while but .. least the unwanted crap it out for good - but i just woundn't want it to hurt him or his career, thinking of that.

and agree 'MP' the false Minnie story (which someone asked about on IMDB the other week, and i had to tell them...and i think 'Jess' did aswell - that is was aload of crap! and Minnie was dishonest)... The 'Maaaaaaaaat Daaaaaaaaamon' thing from 'Team America'(which is so stupid and annoying!)along with Jimmy Kimmel thing (which i thought was funny and of course well acted out - but some people need to let loose and need to realise it was a joke! and certainly not real and Matt was just doing a great acting job.)...but like you said has made him look stupid to some pepole unfortunatly. But IMO i think they need to get real!

Sorry I've just gone on Felicity! But thanks for all the updates (Even the weird one from Minnie) all the Bourne Updates, can not wait for that film will be great! Your brill thankyou! Appreciated.

    Re: Minnie Driver

I've always suspected that Minnie has chosen to portray herself as a victim of the break-up for sympathy and publicity. Matt denied the Oprah story, and yet she let people believe it for a long time. However, ten years later, few people seem to remember or care. She is, after all, really a B-list celebrity at best.

I hope that she has matured enough to treat Matt with civility in the press. He has always treated her in the media better than she's treated him.

    Re: Minnie Driver

Sounds like a heaping pile of sarcasm to me. Even if she didn't have a bad history with Matt and by extension Ben, the quote would still read funny with a hint of insincerity.

I agree. She was being sarcastic and I would have laughed if I had heard it.
