Matt Damon News Column
Appearance at Virginia university
  • It appears that Matt will be attending a Q&A session with Robert De Niro and Hardball presenter Chris Matthews at George Mason University in Virginia on Thursday 14 December. The show will be taped for the MSNBC program, and is open to all. Details here or here. Matt seems to have been a late addition to the event.

A special segment of MSNBC’s news-talk program "Hardball," hosted by Chris Matthews, is being taped at Mason’s Fairfax Campus on Thursday, Dec. 14, at 1:30 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall.

Academy Award-winning actor Robert De Niro is the principal guest. He will discuss his latest movie, "The Good Shepherd," a drama that revolves around the beginning days of the Central Intelligence Agency. Matt Damon, who also stars in the film, will participate as well.

The taping is open to all – staff, faculty, students and members of the community – and admission is free. General admission seating begins at 12:30 p.m. Concert Hall doors will close at 1:15 p.m., and there will be no late seating.

It's not as if the McConaughey impression is a new trick - he did the impression at the One X One benefit and during the Details magazine interview.

And here's McConaghey's response to watching the clip live on The Early Show (but they didn't show him the whole clip):

Here's the official announcement from MSNBC:

The “Hardball College Tour” wraps the year with special guests, Academy Award winners Robert DeNiro and Matt Damon, from George Mason University’s Center for the Arts. DeNiro and Damon join Matthews to discuss their new film, “The Good Shepherd,” which opens on December 22nd. The “Hardball College Tour” telecasts on Monday, December 18 at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (ET).

Robert DeNiro has produced, directed and also stars in “The Good Shepherd,” a powerful story about the birth of the Central Intelligence Agency amidst the intrigue of the Cold War. A prolific and acclaimed actor who has perfected the portrayal of brooding, intense characters in such films as “Raging Bull” and “The Godfather II,” DeNiro stars as General Bill Sullivan, the U.S. Army official who helped create the first U.S. intelligence service. Matt Damon, also known for his portrayal of complex characters, stars as the film’s protagonist Edward Wilson, an early recruit to the secretive new agency.

DeNiro and Damon will spend the hour discussing their film and, in the tradition of the “Hardball College Tour,” will take questions from the students in the audience. The “Hardball College Tour” has had a busy fall season, with stops at Iowa State University with Senator John McCain (R-Az), Georgetown University with Academy Award winners Robin Williams and Barry Levinson and most recently, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with former Senator John Edwards.
