Informant scheduled for October 2007
  • Great news - the source of the story is unknown, but Matt will be making The Informant for director Steven Soderbergh in October 2007. From contact music:

Soderbergh released Damon to work on De Niro film

MATT DAMON found it easy to persuade STEVEN SODERBERGH to release him from his THE INFORMANT contract to make THE GOOD SHEPHERD - he told him ROBERT DE NIRO was the director. The GOOD WILL HUNTING star was all signed up to take the lead in Soderbergh's film when De Niro offered him the part he'd been dreaming about for years. The OCEAN'S 11 director knew how important The Good Shepard was for his pal and immediately released him from his contract. Damon says, "Bob (De Niro) offered me the part out of the blue and I was scheduled to do a movie with Soderbergh. I called him up and I told him what was going on and he instantly pushed for me.

"He said, `If this had been a movie where you were getting an enormous amount of money for some goofy popcorn movie, I wouldn't do it,' but because he knew De Niro was trying to do it for a long time he wouldn't stop one of his friends from doing a great movie. "So he pushed The Informant back and we're gonna do that next October (07)." Damon admits he first read the script for De Niro's The Good Shepherd back in 1998, but never imagined he'd get the nod to star in the film. He adds, "Somebody else was promised the role at that point. I remember thinking, `Wow, this is terrific. I hope this gets made."

You know, I went back and re-bought the hsx.com stock for "The Informant". Remember when we thought it was a no-go and so I sold off? Well, I bought it back for 1.70/share and now it's up to 8.59, a 405% increase. Glad I came to realized to have faith in our Matt. :-)

I am so glad he is finally going to make The Informant! Do you know what he is going to be working on after he finishes The Bourne Ultimatum and before he starts shooting The Informant?

Matt's said he will be taking time off from acting to work on a writing project. It may be a joint writing project with Ben, which could turn into a joint directing project.

He has said he was going to write something for 9 years now. I will believe it when I see it. I don't understand about co-directing with Ben. Directing seems like a lone project to me.

It was due to come out in winter 2006 but has now been delayed until "TBA 2007". It, like Good Shepherd, has major editing problems.

Early reports actually indicate Matt has a pretty decent-sized role - much bigger than Matthew Broderick or Mark Ruffalo.
