  • A quote from Robert De Niro here:

How would you describe your star, Matt Damon?

I'm biased, but I think he was great. I'm extremely happy with Matt and what he did. I couldn't have asked for a better performance, contribution and support. Across the board, he was just great.

  • The Good Shepherd received three nominations in the St Louis Film Critics annual awards: Best Picture, Best Director and Matt for Best Actor. The National Society of Film Critics voted the screenplay the year's third best.

  • A new still from Bourne Ultiamtum is below, from here.

  • An article on Matt's former assistant Trinette Faint is at the Boston Globe, including:

"He's great," says Trinette Faint , the Cambridge-bred actor's personal assistant between '99 and '02. "Matt's very easy going. I was lucky because I didn't work for someone who was a tyrant or crazy."

  • More comments by Matt about De Niro here:

MATT DAMON has praised ROBERT DE NIRO's directing abilities insisting he's a much better actor after working with his idol on new movie THE GOOD SHEPHERD. Damon admits the experience of taking guidance from De Niro made him realise how many actors are rewarded for overacting - because the CAPE FEAR star insists on keeping everything simple. Damon says, "That stuff gets rewarded a lot of the time. People stand up and cheer for so and so in this performance, and you're just going, 'What the f**k was that?' "That's why you have to just be thinking about the process... You can tell somebody how to win an award... (but) that can't be why you're doing it. "It was a great experience with De Niro because this performance was like the opposite of all of those things. I'm a much better actor for having gone through that process with him."

Thanks for the news and photos

I'm so glad to hear that someone (St Louis Film Critics) finally gave Matt a nomination for his acting in "The Good Shepard" which I hadn't anticipated liking and ended up really enjoying (despite the weird holes in the plot where there was no logical follow up to some significant events). And thanks so much for all of the information on the "Bourne Ultimatum" I can't wait to see it! -- Thanks, as always, for your terrific site! Cheryl

Yay for the nominations from the St. Louis Film Critics and the National Society of Film Critics!

I also dig the new pic from Bourne Ultimatum -- thanks as always, Felicity, for tracking all this stuff down! -- and I agree, Matt totally rocks the eyeglasses. The closer-up pic of him in glasses from the previous post the day before is the best look I've gotten of him wearing them. Does anyone know when he got them, anyway? I noticed them for the first time a few months ago when he suddenly began to appear in paparazzi pics wearing them during outings with his family, but I didn't ask at the time how long he'd had them because no one else seemed to comment on them and I figured they must've been old news I'd missed out on! (Although how I could miss out on anything as significant as Matt sporting a new pair of glasses is beyond me. ;-)

I also have to say, those quotes from Matt featured in that CinemaBlend.com piece sound like they were taken essentially verbatim from his Inside the Actors Studio appearance.

Yep, lots of sources are continuing to take various quotes from the Actor's Studio appearance and not credit it. (Not that I've seen the show, but I can guess where they come from.)

Matt first appeared in public with glasses at the Boston Red Sox game he attended with Lucy during the filming of The Departed. Which makes it 19 June 2005.

Thanks for the clarification on the glasses, Felicity! Now that you mention it, I do kinda vaguely remember that he was wearing glasses at that game. I think he looks great in them!
