Greengrass, Batman project
  • From a recent interview with Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass, where he accepted an award for United 93 from Total Film magazine (which incidentally has Matt on the cover of this month's issue):

Greengrass: "When I was doing 93 I could feel the, 'Oh dear, you’re not getting into 9/11, are you?'" continues the softly spoken director. "It’s weird, cos this [The Bourne Ultimatum] is the reverse. Every day you’re out on the street and people say, ‘What are you doing?’ And you say, ‘The Bourne Ultimatum.’ And they’re like, ‘Oh fantastic, can’t wait to see it!’ It’s a different kind of a pressure then. Like, you’ve got to not disappoint them."

  • And from a profile on Greengrass in The Guardian (but there's been no suggestion before that Ultimatum is budgeted this high):

Greengrass's previous film was a franchise blockbuster, The Bourne Supremacy, with Matt Damon as the CIA-trained assassin with a conscience, Jason Bourne. Now Greengrass is filming the third Bourne film, The Bourne Ultimatum, entrusted by Universal with an eye-popping $125m budget. And it was announced on Wednesday that his next project will be Imperial Life in the Emerald City, based on the book about life in Baghdad's green zone by Rajiv Chandrasekaran.

  • Matt is rumored to have declined the role of Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, the Batman Begins sequel - here.

    Empire magazine

It looks like Matt is on the cover of the new Empire Magazine due out about now-ish. Not sure what the content will be (I suspect just a preview of Bourne and action films in general). I will look out for it on the way home today! Jan

    Re: Empire magazine

Thanks Jan. Can you also see if there's anything new in Total Film? There's a Good Shepherd special and also some kind of Matt top 10.

    Re: Empire magazine

Will do - had better raid WH Smiths in Waterloo Station on my way home!

    Re: Empire magazine

The Empire mag does look good - I thought it had already gone from stores. It supposedly had a long look at Ultimatum (including major plot points), and the Empire site is promoting an inside view after being on set at Waterloo station.

Maybe the earlier issue had other stuff, and they've now got more - the electronic preview says it's in stores 26 January.

    Previewed here:

    Re: Empire magazine

I've just got both Empire and Total Film - not had chance to fully look at either as I'm still at work(!). Briefly the new edition of Empire is an Action Special with an on-set article about Bourne. Hysterically the article talks about Matt being in the WH Smith in Waterloo that I've just bought the magazine from! The shop is making a big feature of it obviously!

Total Film has an article about The Good Shepherd and there are quotes from Matt.

    Question

I thought I read somewhere, possibly this wonderful column, that Matt was receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this year. Is that true? If so, does anyone know when that is to happen?

    Re: Question

That is correct. The list of nominees for 2007 have been announced but no dates have been provided. No doubt the ceremony will be timed for the release of Bourne Ultimatum in August.

Is Matt going to be involved at all with Greengrass' next project?

"The Departed" to reappear in theaters this weekend

You are so welcome! By the way, I was glad to hear about "Empire" zine - I'll be standing outside their doors waiting for them to open tomorrow! Also wanted to pass along this info from the IMDB folks that was posted today (http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/#film1) - "...The coming weekend will reveal how much an Oscar nomination is worth. Studios have stepped up advertising and promotions for nominated films still in release, and Warner Bros. has relaunched the Martin Scorsese drama The Departed, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon, in nearly 1,500 theaters...." I sure hope it comes to my neck of the woods, because I'll definitely go see it. -- Take care, Cheryl

    Empire & Total Film

Both the new Empire and Total Film magazines have given The Good Shepherd 3 stars (out of 5) - the reviews are very good about Matt. Empire has an article on Bourne with some quotes from Matt. Total Film article about TGS, again with some Matt quotes and there is a feature on spy films with the Bourne films and TGS featured. Quite a Matt issue - there is a top 10 Matt movies - with some rather silly entries (Team America?!) - but doesn't inlcude Bourne Supremacy or The Departed. It also has some stupid 'who would win the fight thing' - with Daniel Craig's Bond beating Bourne and meeting Sean Connery's Bond in the final. I don't know which magazine came first but Total Film is a clone of Empire.

I would say it is worth buying both if you don't mind the geeky 12 year old psychchology!

    Re: Empire & Total Film

Thanks for the update Jan. Any new details about Ultimatum?
From: (Anonymous) Date: January 27th, 2007 10:50 am (UTC) (Link)

    Re: Empire & Total Film

Nothing really new about Ultimatum. It is being kept very hush hush! The article mentions how Greengrass does not want to draw attention to the filming in Waterloo and never shouts 'action' or 'cut' and that the cameras are placed discreetly around the place. It talks about Bourne and the Considine journalist character being pursued through the station and ducking into the WH Smith where I bought my Empire.

    MINOR SPOILER

and that the last scene in Supremacy occurs two thirds of the way through Ultimatum. And the car chase happens in New York.

    Re: Empire & Total Film

I don't suppose it mentions a finish date for filming? That's the one thing I'd love to know, but it's never mentioned.

BTW - filming in Berlin next week:

    Re: Empire & Total Film

No finish date I'm afraid. But, there is a new photo which I haven't seen anywhere - Bourne jumping off his motorbike in Tangier.

I don't believe Jan has a scanner but if someone else can scan it that would be great. Otherwise, it will turn up on the web somewhere soon.

    Re: Empire & Total Film

Sorry guys! I don't have a scanner - otherwise I would have done the whole article for everyone. I have access to one in early April, if nobody else gets in there sooner! Jan
