Clips, interview
  • Video footage from the Berlinale press conference and premiere is available here. At the premiere, Matt and cast (including Timothy Hutton and Mark Ivanir) arrive at the 32 minute mark.

  • From an interview with Ben Affleck at The Times:

His is a classic Hollywood rags to riches tale. A former child actor, Affleck moved to Los Angeles in the early 1990s with acting buddy Matt Damon and they struggled for years. "We lived all over the place, getting into debt, being thrown out of apartments, trying to get roles and wanting to be well known," he says.

  • A new Berlinale interview with a Spanish newspaper is here, and my very rough translation of some answers follow. (If anyone can provide a more accurate translation, please note it in the comments section).

It seems that you are at the peak of your career. Do you feel that you are at a peak at the moment?
Yes, there is no doubt that I feel I’m at a great point, but it's not only because of the work. I have a daughter and my personal life could not be better, so everything else is somewhat secondary. Certainly in this profession you will always feel insecure, because you know that it is possible that one day the telephone will not ring, but at this time in my life the truth is that that it doesn't worry me anymore.

What are your plans for the immediate future?
Tomorrow I leave for New York to finish the filming of "The Bourne Ultimatum", as the third act happens there and later we will transfer to Washington to complete some scenes. Also, and although this trip has been really brief, I need to see my wife and my daughter, because when we are all together everything is perfect and I would like very much to be with them.

I never knew they got themselves in debt and were actually thrown out of apartments. I guess I pictured their suffering a little less extreme. But at least they had each other to get through those bad times with, and their future success made it all worth while.

The usual quote is that they always managed to get by when someone got a job to pay the rent.

That's why I thought it was unusual.
