Cheadle, Empire interview
  • Here's some more of Matt's discussion with Don Cheadle in Interview magazine:

MD: You produced Crash [2005] but for some reason didn't get one of the producing Oscars given out for it. Now, I remember being at your house while there was this whole argument brewing over who was going to get credit for the film and seeing this form that you were supposed to submit--

    DC: The questionnaire.

MD:--yeah, this questionnaire. And after the question asking what you had done to produce the movie, you'd only written one line, and I asked you why you hadn't written an essay. And you said to me, "I know what I did to produce the movie, and the people involved know what I did to produce it, and if they don't want to acknowledge that I'm the producer of the movie then that's on them." I thought that was a wonderful attitude.

DC: You also said, "Are you out of your mind?"

MD: I did, because you'd done the work and you deserved recognition for it and also because of my sense of justice. In retrospect, do you regret taking the moral high road?

DC: Well, you've been to my house and you know where all of my awards are--nobody even sees them unless they're trying to find something behind the couch.

  • The source of the recent comment by Matt about Brad Pitt in Prague is Empire magazine in the UK. Can anybody screencap the Empire UK website (www.empire.co.uk) for any details about the issue? In Australia we can only access the local version of Empire, and cannot view the UK site. Here's the quote, as reported at the Mirror.

Matt, 36, tells this month's Empire magazine: "I honestly don't know how Brad does it. He can't walk down the street anywhere, literally anywhere.

"They're in Prague right now because Angelina's working, and he can't walk down the street.

"I went to Prague and I didn't sign an autograph for six months - and it was great! The fame side is not interesting to me at all."

  • A very strange interview, with a range of possibly false quotes (and also six months late) is here.

  • Video footage of Matt, Ben and Lucy surfing in Hawaii is here.

  • Recent fund-raising efforts through the Ocean's Thirteen premieres and special events raised a total of $9.3 million for Darfur-related charities.

  • More photos of Matt and Lucy in Hawaii are at PopSugar.

I'm taking that interview with a grain of salt. I don't believe 99% of it.

The surfing video was fantastic! Many thanks, Felicity!

Lucy looks pretty good surfing in that video. I think Jennifer Garner is about 3 months pregnant.

No more pregnancy comments from anyone please. Any time there's a picture of Jennifer there's a flood of 'is she pregnant' queries. Not for us to speculate.

Nice news about the money raised for the Darfur situation. Thanks for posting Matt's interview with Don Cheadle, very interesting reading.

Sorry I can't help you out with the Empire story, but haven't been sent my email copy yet, seems like you've got most of it though.

Don't know what to make of that interview about Matt and family moving to Argentina? He's aged a year and has a teen-aged stepdaughter so I'm thinking maybe just totally made up. It's very sweet that at the age of 36 he still has a sense of justice in this world, wish I could say the same. Marcia

Lots of the quotes in that "interview" seem completely implausible. I really posted it for entertainment value only.

The Cheadle interview also includes the following quotes - as continued from the text in the post:

MD: I did actually find something behind your couch once.

DC: I think it was your Golden Globe. [Damon laughs] What I took away from that was more how screwed up the Producers Guild is with regard to the issue of who gets credit and what producing really means. I understand their desire to stop vanity credits and to try to only give credit where it's due, but I think it's being applied with a mallet when a smaller, more precise tool may be what's necessary. We both know that sometimes it does take an army to produce a movie, especially with a smaller film that doesn't have any money behind it. I clearly touched on and had an impact on every part of that film, but what I want more than getting up on that stage is some longevity in this business.

MD: Well, that's the thing. Getting an Oscar is less about the statue and more about your own ability to get things made down the road. It's obviously quite a calling card.

DC: It's funny, though--I guess because insiders know what I did on the film, not receiving the award hasn't really derailed anything. I started [the production company] Crescendo, and we've already sold two movies that I'm producing and we have a third one lined up. So I can't really growl too much about not getting the Oscar.

MD: I did notice, though, that since you've been to my house, I can't find mine. [laughs]

DC: All right, so I have Oscar envy!

Bourne Ultimatum book Reprint with Movie Poster Cover

Hi Felicity -thanks as always for the great information and pics. I was in a store today and saw that "Bourne Ultimatum" has been republished using as the the BU movie poster image as the cover- the one where Matt's back is to the camera and we see New York in front of him. I bought the other re-prints of Ludlum's books because they had Matt on the covers - won't waste money on this copy! Silly publishing people, what the heck where they thinking!? I've also noticed that some bookstores have re-stocked the other two Ludlum books that were re-printed with movie related covers that were put at the same time as the last Bourne two movies. And our local theater is going to be selling advance tickets to the "Bourne Ultimatum", a sign indicating that they are expecting BU to be a big movie - no surprise to us! Take care -- Cheryl

Re: Bourne Ultimatum book Reprint with Movie Poster Cover

Thanks for the post Cheryl. The book cover was all about timing, I guess - they couldn't wait for a better poster and wanted to get early book sales.

I don't see a link to the video footage when I click on your link, Felicity. Do you know if it was removed?

The surfing video is fun. Makes you almost feel sorry for the paparazzi waiting to take good shots if most of the time the guys are waiting for decent waves. But it's more about the falls than the surfing, and they kept cutting Lucy out of the picture to focus on Ben.

It was pretty funny when the guys filming it were cheering Ben on. I got a good chuckle out of that. I agree, it was definitly about the falls and the floating! :D

    Access Hollywood

Great preview of TBU on Access Hollywood! Totally different clips from those on ET. This is clearly going to be the best of the three Bournes. Hope you all got a chance to see the preview (or will).
