Hawaii update, Patrick Whitesell
  • New details on the Hawaii trip from the NY Daily News, sourced from Us Weekly (additional details should be in the next issue). As of July 2, Matt, Ben and their families were still in Hawaii.

Scripted getaway for Ben and Matt

Paris isn't the only one hanging 10 in the Aloha State. While buddies Ben Affleck and Matt Damon enjoyed a joint family vacation there, sources say they used the down time to rekindle their writing partnership.

"Ben and Matt keep taking breaks to go surfing and hang out with their families," an insider tells Us Weekly. "But for the most part, they've been writing together on this trip."

It was in 1998 that the pair walked home with Oscars for their "Good Will Hunting" screenplay.

Damon's rep confirmed that the duo are set to return to screenwriting.

"That's their plan," she told us. "Whether or not they are doing it right now, I don't know."

  • If the vacation's over, Matt and Ben may attend today the 'Ante up for Africa' event in Las Vegas to raise public awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Darfur - details here.

The brainchild of Academy Award nominee Don Cheadle and poker professional Annie Duke, the Ante Up For Africa tournament is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. July 5 in the WSOP tournament area in the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

  • Matt and Ben's agent, Patrick Whitesell, is expecting another child with wife Lauren Sanchez Whitesell.

I have such conflicting feelings. I think it's too bad the vacation wasn't just that, a *vacation,* but at the same time, I ecstatic that they got some time to work on their next script. It's about time.

Vacation is officially over! Ben is at the Vegas poker tournament, but no sign of Matt yet. (Ben is also going to the Live Earth event in London on Saturday.)

    Ben at Live Earth

As much as I approve what the Live Earth event is trying to do, on a personal level I'm not looking forward to it. Wembley Stadium is so close to where we live the whole area is going to be completely gridlocked all day, We're going to be prisoners in our own home for most of Saturday. As it's an event highlighting global warming and ecological issues I wonder about the wisdom of flying celebrities into and out of the various venues around the world and the carbon footprint this event is going to create. I guess they'll all have to plant lots and lots of trees when it's over. Thanks for your comments on the water crisis, happy to know I'm not the only one who is interested. Marcia

    Re: Ben at Live Earth

At least for the Australian concert these issues were certainly discussed, and guarantees were made that the event would be carbon positive (if that's the term).
