Poker tournament, Hawaii photos
  • Matt and Ben both attended the "Ante up for Africa" charity poker tournament in Las Vegas. Photos from Yahoo, Getty and Isifa. Great photos are also at this link. Video footage of Matt at Ben's table, where he is apparently told to leave by officals to the displeasure of Ben, is at YouTube. A report on how Matt and Ben fared, with quotes, is at People. More photos are now at Just Jared.

  • A report on the event is here, including:

The World Series of Poker flexed its social conscience Thursday evening as 170 celebrities and poker pros played a charity tournament to raise money and awareness for the human rights catastrophe in the Darfur region of Sudan.

Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Hank Azaria and Shannon Elizabeth were among the celebrities who braved the WSOP red carpet to play with the likes of Annie Duke, Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Phil Gordon and Daniel Negreanu in Ante Up for Africa.

Damon is also serious about the Darfur cause. "I'm here to try and raise money and awareness for the tragedies taking place," he said. "I really hope it becomes an annual event. I hope it does and I hope it doesn't. I hope we can solve this issue and refocus the efforts on something else in Africa."

Damon elbowed his was through ESPN reporters to pop by and support his Boston pal Affleck.

  • A Vegas sighting from Norm Clarke at the Review Journal:

Damon and Affleck, gambling Thursday at the high-stakes Mint lounge at the Palms. They flew in from Hawaii on Wednesday, missing their family Fourth of July parties, to support Cheadle's "Ante Up for Africa" tournament. They were staying in the Sky Villas at the Palms' fantasy tower.

  • More photos from Hawaii are at Just Jared, Faded Youth and People. Photos of Isabella on the beach with Jennifer and Lucy's mother are at Celebrity Baby Blog. A longer report from Us on the trip is here, and an earlier scan from In Touch is thanks to Sammie.

I wonder what was their reason for making Ben leave the table. "I'm sorry sorry, Sir, but we're all aware of your 2004 win and...you're just too good to play here." Jerks. But thank good Matt was there to steady Ben's emotions. You can see that his hand on his shoulder & the positioning himself between Ben and the man asking him to leave were all acts of a loving friend.

Btw, thanks again for the photos, Felicity. Again, I think you picked the best of the best. I hadn't seen that first one before either. Just gorgeous.

I presume Matt couldn't approach the table while a game was going on, and the official was quite right to intrude and ask him to leave. But Ben was certainly angered and Matt much calmer, as you wrote.

Pictures without watermarks should surface tomorrow. And do check out the link to the official poker photos - really good pics of Matt, but they are not meant to be copied so I can't show them here.

Thanks, I did check them out. Matt's looking very sleek. He got quite a tan in Hawaii!

Ooooooh. They were asking Matt to leave. The way you worded it Felicity, I thought they were asking Ben to leave. Besides, you can't hear a word any of them are saying, so you certainly can't tell what's going on audibly. Matt leaving does make a lot more sense though, of course. It's conceivable that the other players might think he was communicating with Ben by touching his shoulders. Preposterous, but conceivable none the less.
