  • From Entertainment Weekly's review of summer movies:

Indeed, moviegoers had to wait until August for a true payoff: The Bourne Ultimatum was the only one of the '07 threequels to outgross its predecessors (its box office stands at $185 million). Though Matt Damon joked on The Daily Show that a fourth film should be called The Bourne Redundancy, Universal is discussing the possibility. And given Ultimatum's strong reviews and kick-ass action, we don't blame them. You say Bourne; we say Bourne.

  • And from a similar article at the LA Daily News:

THE IRONMAN: Matt Damon is the star of summer 2007. His "The Bourne Ultimatum" is a smash and assured of grossing at least $200 million domestically in addition to stellar foreign ticket sales. As an added bonus, Damon - along with George Clooney and Brad Pitt - was the main drawing card of the ensemble comedy caper "Ocean's Thirteen," which was another $100 million hit to add to Damon's sum . And to top it off, Damon got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and his footprints and handprints enshrined in front of Grauman's Chinese Theatre! Next: Matt Damon for president!

  • Another good Australian interview with Matt is at The Age:

"We had the release date before we had the script," Damon says with a thin laugh. "I know it happens all the time but it's the first time I ever signed up for one."

That's a lot of pressure. "It's like a giant game of chicken where you're standing on the train tracks and the train's coming at you and you're going, 'No, I'm not going to budge!' And you're contracted to the release date. The posters are up."

One of Damon's heroes is Gregory Peck, who was once challenged to sum up his entire acting career in one word. "Honour," he said. "Boy, that's so true about him," Damon says.

So what word is Damon working towards? He presses his thumbs into his chin. "I would have to think long and hard about that."

He does, and moments later, in the middle of a question, suddenly says: "Compassion. That's my word. That's what I'm working towards. Sorry to interrupt."

"It's like golf. It's impossible to get it perfect. I'm on this never-ending quest to make the perfect movie."
