Arthur, Deauville continued
  • Another report on the Arthur appearance (which will air Monday), from the Boston Globe:

    Brothers Damon light up 'Arthur'

Kyle Damon's gotten used to a lot of the showbiz glitz since his younger brother Matt catapulted to the big-time. But the visual artist admits that being part of the animated PBS series "Arthur" gave him a bit of a tickle.

"It was something totally new," Kyle told us. The "it" is a new episode that airs today of the series based on Marc Brown's famed aardvark family in which the Oscar-winning actor provides the voice for an animated character and several of Kyle's pieces of art were included in the scenes. "To have other artists re-interpret your artwork into a new setting is so interesting," said Kyle. "I thought they were a lot more generous with Matt's abdominal muscles than my art."

The Damon brothers got involved with the show because Matt did some theater at Harvard with series writer Peter Hirsch and show producer Pierre Valette owns works by Kyle. "But I have to say, I love the show, my two sons, who are older now, really engaged in [the series]," said Kyle. "Still it's all surreal." ...As for the world-traveling Matt, he was in France with his wife, Luciana Barroso, over the weekend promoting "The Bourne Ultimatum" at the 33d American Film Festival, where buddy Ben Affleck's directorial debut "Gone Baby Gone" will have its world premiere on Wednesday.

  • Bourne Ultimatum continues to set records with a great opening in Australia - from the Hollywood Reporter:

Universal International's "The Bourne Identity" finished second over the weekend, grossing an estimated $15.1 million from 2,404 screens in 31 markets.

The action sequel starring Matt Damon had six No. 1 openings, most notably in Australia, where it grabbed a 60% overall market share with an estimated $5.1 million from 252 sites, for a mighty $20,238 per-screen average. It was Universal's biggest opening weekend ever in Australia, and the biggest August opening weekend ever recorded by any distributor.

"Bourne's" first place bow in Argentina produced an estimated $300,000 from 42 locations. A strong holdover in the U.K. yielded $4.6 million from 468 situations for an average of $9,829 per screen, enough to secure the No. 1 market spot for the third consecutive weekend. Holdovers in Spain and New Zealand also put "Bourne" No. 1 in each territory.

With 24 more overseas territories yet to play over the next three months, "Bourne" has accumulated a total overseas gross of $75 million. Its worldwide tally is $274.6 million. A Mexico bow is due Sept. 7.

  • Matt met up with George Clooney for dinner in Deauville. One article reported that Matt went to his hotel bar each night and mingled with guests, whereas George had the same bar closed and drank with friends.

  • There's a great story here of Matt visiting the grave of a great-uncle killed in the war just after the Normandy landing and having a memorable encounter with the man who had discovered his relative's body and taken it to a protected location.

    Matt on Dutch tv tonight.

I don't know if you have any dutch visitors Felicity, but I just wanted to let you know that Matt is a guest on the Dutch talkshow Jensen! at 22.30pm (GMT+1) on channel RTL5 tonight.

I've met Matt again at the bourne ultimatum premiere in Amsterdam, he was nice as always. He even recognized me from 3 years ago.

    Lovely pictures as always!

    Keep up the good work.

    Love, Pauline.

Thanks Pauline, I've been wondering how you fared at the premiere.

I've been watching the Jensen website waiting for the video.

I think the video will be up within two days, but I'll keep you posted on that.

I havent been to the premiere itself, since I couldn't get in because of my wheelchair. They only had tickets for the balcony left.

So I've been waiting outside for 3 hours along with friends and other people. If you want to I can send you the video of me and matt talking.

He only was outside for 5 minutes, spending 2 minutes talking to me. I was flattered.

An hour before he arrived he had arranged pizza for everyone who was waiting outside. I thought that was so funny and adorable!

    Matt on Dutch tv

    Hi Felicity,

This afternoon I had read in the newspaper that Matt would be a guest on Jensen show tonight, but now it seems that it'll be another day.

I'm a little dissapointed in the newspaper for making such a mistake.

If he doesn't appear on the show tonight, then he will sometime this week.

    Love, Pauline.

Now they're sayong that he'll appear on the show tomorrow. Blame the newspaper for giving the wrong information.
    I apologize.

    I'm off to bed, night.

    Pauline.

Bourne Ultimatum movie script-Matt Damon Book Cover

    Hello,

    - Don't know if anyone else is interested but I bought a copy of the 2005 "Bourne Ultimatum" movie script on eBay (not that I'm obsessed or anything). -- Please don't read further if you want to read it yourself.
-- Very interesting to see the differences between the script and what was in the final movie. I liked the first part of the script but it rapidly went downhill, with Bourne turning into a truly crazy man and Nicki turns out to be another yet another Blackbriar graduate. Blech. It was awful to see Jason turned into this paranoid, awful creep. By the way, Nicki and Jason didn't get into a fight. I am SO glad they changed all of this in the movie!! Quite a bit of the dialog survived and Pam still acts as a whistle blower.

I watched the episode of 'Arthur'

Fantabulous job as usual, Felicity, continuing to gather so much great content about Matt at this very busy time for him -- thanks again for all you do for us!

And I'm thrilled to hear you thoroughly enjoyed 'Ultimatum' -- I really did, too! I think 'Supremacy' is still my personal favorite of the three, but I agree, 'Ultimatum' really is brilliant. Enough that I've seen it three times now, and I'm itching to go at least one more time while it's still in theaters -- nothing quite like seeing movies as intended, on the big screen! :-)

Anyway, just thought I'd chime in to let folks here know I watched the episode of the children's show 'Arthur' featuring Matt and Kyle's artwork -- I'd never seen the show before, and it was very, very cute. They gave Matt some really funny lines -- in fact, a number of lines throughout were more sophisticated than I was expecting from a show for kids, refreshingly -- and I just think it's a kick overall that they did the show with Matt, replicating that old t-shirt of his and some of Kyle's sculptures and everything. Really a lot of fun.

The description of the show, as recorded by my TiVo, actually made me laugh before I even started watching: "Arthur and his friends videotape themselves for Matt Damon's TV show." Oh, right -- Matt Damon's TV show. Of course! ;-)

Thanks Jeff. I hadn't seen a good report on the show, but it sounds really cute. Next one: The Simpsons! (But no air date yet.)

Re: I watched the episode of 'Arthur'

Arthur is a wonderful children's program, but I missed the episode. Does anyone know where I can catch a repeat, or even what the episode was titled?

    Thanks-
    JH

Re: I watched the episode of 'Arthur'

JH, as I'm sure you know but was news to me, since I'd never seen 'Arthur' before, the show is divided into two 15-minute episodes, and Matt's was the first one, titled "The Making of Arthur." The second 15-minute episode it's bundled with is titled "Dancing Fools."

I'd be happy to describe more of what Matt did on the episode if anyone wants me to -- I just didn't want to spoil it for anyone if they're intending to watch it. :-)
