First of all a huge thanks to you Felicity for your wonderful website. Merry Christmas!

I wonder what Matt is up to in New York - I shall be there next week......:-)

Re Matt's weight - it would be a shame if he thinks he has to put weight on for The Informant. I would have thought that his natural body shape would be fine for this movie - not all middle-aged men are overweight. I can understand why he needs to bulk up his muscles for Green Zone - my cousin is a Royal Marine and his body is very impressive - he is so strong. You feel very safe in his company.

Would love to see Matt back in the theatre...perhaps when the actors strike he could return to the West End! Would love to see him do something at the Old Vic or National theatre rather than one of the star vehicle commercial shows. Would the strike affect Broadway I wonder?

Finally the Bourne DVD - really enjoyed the extras, particularly as one of the deleted scenes features the building where I live. I was disappointed not to see it in the movie itself. The little documentaries are excellent - Matt seems very relaxed these days. The only disappointment is Paul Greengrass' commentary - a shame Matt couldn't have done it too. They would be good foils for each other I think.

    Merry Chritsmas Everyone!

Yes, I wonder what he is doing in New York also. You'd think he would want to stay in Miami this time of year.

I think it's a shame that he feels he needs to gain weight for The Informant also. The only thing I can think of is that it will make him look older and Matt tends to look younger than he is.

I would LOVE to see Matt back in the theatre. I would love to see him back on the West End or on Broadway. I'm pretty sure a SAG strike will not affect Broadway.

I haven't watched The Bourne Ultimatum DVD extras yet. (My son gave it to me for my birthday) But I ALWAYS prefer commentaries with 2 people talking. It just makes it a lot more interesting to me than just the director droning on by himself.

    Informant players

I've been waiting for Matt to visit NY and see Jennifer Garner on Broadway, and I think they saw the show last Friday.

The weight gain for The Informant is probably to make Matt more closely resemble Mark Whitacre, whom the story is based on.

Whitacre is described initially as "a blond man in his mid-thirties with a moustache and a baby face" (p2)

Other descriptions: energetic, "with his unlined, boyish face and blond hair, he looked as innocent as an altar boy" (p42). His background is on p39. Can't find the longer description at the moment (12.33am) - I'll find it later.

Here's a picture of the real Whitacre, and other players from the book. He looks like Russell Crowe circa The Insider. We could cast this movie now.

    Re: Informant players

I'll bet they are in NY to see Jennifer Garner on Broadway. I'll bet they took Alexa too.

Yes, Mark Whitacre does remind me a lot of Russell Crowe in The Insider. Well, that role certainly didn't hurt Russell's career.

Oh, that reminds me. I loved 3:10 to Yuma also. I thought Russell Crowe was great.

Hi Jan - good to hear from you again and good to know that your building finally gets its cinematic reveal.

The Paul and Matt commentary would indeed have been great and it wouldn't have taken that much for them to do it together. And indeed Matt's the only one of the main players who hasn't promoted the DVD in some way. Those who have done interviews include Dan Bradley, Joey, Julia Stiles, Joan Allen, Frank Marshall, Paddy Considine and David Strathairn.

Thanks so much for posting the podcast with Joey Ansah, Felicity, it was really great. I've been enjoying his role in Spooks over the last few weeks, I really hope The Bourne Ultimatum is the start of a great acting career for him.

I want to add my thanks for all the hard work you do keeping Matt's fans informed with great information about him.

I am dying to know though, what was your favourite movie this year (without Matt int it), least favourite and your guilty pleasure. Mine are:

Favourite film: Inside Man (The Last King of Scotland, Hidden, Downfall and The Pursuit of Happyness I also loved).

Least favourite: Shrek 3(so boring I fell asleep) and Spiderman 3 (too long, too many villains and Mary Jane was a pain in the neck).

Guilty pleasure: The Fantastic Four: The Silver Surfer. Pure joy from start to finish.

What would you like Matt to achieve professionally in 2008?

Anyway, have a great time over the holidays, and thanks again, from an older Matt fan. Marcia

    Off-topic movie talk

Hi Marcia, thanks for your post. I've watched 220 films so far this calendar year, with a few more to come (lots of good films released here on Boxing Day). That's a combination of cinema/TV/DVD.

My top rated films (3.5 or 4 stars) are Stranger than Fiction, The Good Shepherd (honestly), Who Killed the Electric Car, Bourne Ultimatum, The Lives of Others, Shortbus, Into the Wild, The History Boys, and Reign Over Me.

Favourite would be Bourne Ultimatum for many reasons. But the only movies I've cared enough to buy on DVD from this year: Shepherd, Ultimatum (when it comes), Shortbus and Reign Over Me. I haven't even bought Ocean's 13.

Lowest rated films (zero or half a star) were Man About Town, Catch and Release, Talladega Nights, Evening, The Prestige, Scoop, All the King's Men, Running with Scissors, I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry, Taking Lives, and the Fantastic Four sequel. (Haven't seen for lack of interest Shrek 3, Spiderman 3, Pirates 2 or 3).

    Guilty pleasure was probably Transformers.

What I would like Matt to achieve professionally in 2008? Respect and recognition for a movie other than Bourne.

    Re: Off-topic movie talk

I did love The Lives of Others, Into the Wild, The History Boys(but I think I would have liked it even better as a play).

Of the ones you didn't like I saw Talladega Nights( funny, my husband and I had a lot of friends that loved it, but I wouldn't watch it more than once)

The Prestige I loved. I watched it 2 or 3 times.

    Scoop( horrible)

All the King's Men( Really bad, talk about ruining a great novel)

Running With Scissors ( Strange movie but I found it funny and interesting)

I saw Pirates 3 but it was difficult to sit through.

I didn't see Transformers. No interest. Even my 18 year old son didn't like it.

    Re: Off-topic movie talk

Thanks for your response Felicity. Very interesting. I didn't mean to start a fight on here, I just know you watch a lot of movies and found all the responses very interesting.

Best wishes and a happy 2008 to all. Marcia

    Re: Off-topic movie talk

I agree with you Felicity, i would also love to see matt get respect and recognition for a movie other than Bourne. I am really looking forward to next year.

A few of my favorite films of the year were of course the bourne ultimatum, the zodiac, waitress, black snake moan, smokin aces, and reign over me.
There are still so many that i need to see yet that i will definately catch up on during christmas break.
Guilty pleasures = transformers, stomp the yard, and this christmas

    Have a wonderful Holiday everyone!

Favorite Film: No Country for Old Men

    Least Favorite: Evening

Guilty Pleasure: Enchanted ( Pure joy from start to finish)

I would like to see Matt get an Oscar nomination for his acting. Or I would like to see Matt write a screenplay and direct a film or at least write the screenplay and get someone good to direct.

Great topics, as usual Marcia. It's good to have some discussion and get to know one another better.

Enchanted, No Country for Old Men, Gone Baby Gone and many others haven't opened here yet. We don't get Gone Baby Gone now until March.

I'm sorry to hear that. It must be frustrating for a movie buff.
