Matt Damon News Column
Amy Ryan in Green Zone
  • Fox News columnist Roger Friedman reported in his latest column that Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone) has been cast in Green Zone, which should commence filming this week.

[Patricia] Clarkson is doing the rounds supporting best pal Amy Ryan, who won Best Supporting Actress Sunday night for "Gone Baby Gone." Ryan is one of many nominees skipping the Golden Globes next week. She’s off to Spain Monday to shoot Paul Greengrass’ "Imperial Life in the Emerald City" with Matt Damon.

  • A scan of Matt praising Ryan's work in GBG in Variety is available here, thanks to Stacie.

  • A rumored project from years ago is referenced in an interview with director David Fincher, but it's unclear whether it's still a current/possible project (and there should be a warning on the scriptwriter):

MTV: We were talking about your reluctance to do another so-called serial-killer movie with "Zodiac," but now you're reportedly attached to a graphic-novel adaptation called "Torso."

David Fincher: That movie is so not a serial-killer movie. It's about the deconstruction of the myth of [Untouchables leader] Eliot Ness. It has way more to do with "Citizen Kane" than it has to do with "Seven." Ehren Kruger wrote a script that's pretty great. We were speaking with Matt Damon about it.

  • The Bourne Ultimatum received eleven nominations on the long-list for the BAFTAs (British film awards), including Matt for Best Actor - details here. Ultimatum is also on the short-list for a visual effects Oscar.

  • The People's Choice Awards will be broadcast tonight on CBS and E! A ceremony was not held, and there will be pre-taped acceptance speeches from the winners.

I'm really glad that Amy Ryan has been cast in The Green Zone, from what I've seen and read she's a terrific actress with a lot of promise. Gone Baby Gone won't be released here for the forseeable future so I won't be able to see her performance in it (I guess she's hotly tipped to win an Oscar). I am looking forward to the DVD release of Enchanted.

I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed that Matt, Paul and Ultimatum clean up at the BAFTAs, they are less snooty than the Oscars and have given serious awards to popular films of late, I may even watch this year!

The Torso project is a new one to me, didn't Eliot Ness drink himself to death? Anyway, it sounds interesting; I really enjoyed Zodiac, although I thought the murder scenes were too graphic. Jake G (can't spell his surname) and Robert Downey Jr were pitch perfect for their roles and Mark Rufalo was like a young Colombo. Even though I knew the story it was interesting to see how the case affected the lives of those who investigated the case.

Lots of interesting news as always Felicity, thanks a lot. Marcia

Hi Marcia. I haven't seen Amy Ryan in anything yet, and I suspect Matt had a hand in getting her cast (though I doubt there are many female roles in this film).

Here's some more info on Torso, if correct. The project came up once a few years ago as a rumor, but obviously had some substance.

The amount of nominations Bourne got for the BAFTAs was amazing - only a couple behind Atonement. Whether they get many actual noms is another story, but they should get a couple - it's the Casino Royale equivalent this year (Craig and the film got nominated, I think).

I agree with you about Amy Ryan. She was great in Gone Baby Gone and also was really good in a small role in Before the Devil Knows Your Dead.

Fantastic news about Bourne Ultimatuma and the BAFTAS. Very exciting!

I enjoyed Zodiac also. The acting was great by everyone. I can't believe it's being forgotten about now in awards season.

    Amy Ryan/Adams

Hi, Marcia. I think you may be confusing Amy Ryan (in "Gone Baby Gone") and Amy Adams ("Enchanted"). I have heard great things about Ryan, but I haven't seen GBG yet. Amy Adams in "Enchanted" was perfect in her role.

    Oops! My mistake. Marcia

    Re: Amy Ryan/Adams

Amy Adams is really great in Enchanted. She also is good in a supporting role in Charlie Wilson's War. I think she probably has more screen time than Julia Roberts.

I'd love to see her do a movie with Matt.
