The article makes some interesting points about the downturn in sales of bottled water, and the negativity associated with a possible campaign for 'charitable' water. It's certainly not an easy sell, and a nickel per bottle seems very low for such a concept.

I also just read a book with a sub-plot about a guerilla campaign against makers of bottled water and how it is morally repugnant to sell 'designer' water when so many people live without it ("Girl meets boy" by Ali Smith). Yep, timely.

I agree with you. As the article points out Starbucks rejected an initiative where 100% of the profit was donated to charity. Says it all about their actual commitment I think.

By the way I'm not knocking Matt's commitment to the project. He's probably insanely busy with work, family and other commitments and I think it's good that he uses what little free time he must have this way; I just think the corporates involved could do a lot more and be far more generous, the positive publicity generated would be great PR for them too.
