Matt Damon News Column
Iron Man and Bourne, Informant, charity auctions
  • In promotions for new film Iron Man, star Robert Downey Jr has mentioned Matt and Bourne as influences - as seen here and here:

Q: What kind of image did you want to portray on the big screen?
Downey Jr: Well, I talked to Matt Damon a little bit about this. We chatted about the director of Bourne Ultimatum who would often say to Matt: “Don't smile. Act more butch.” That's good advice, but I couldn't really stick to it.

Downey likens the role of Tony Stark to that of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) in the "Bourne Ultimatum" and "Bourne Supremacy" movies that pair big Hollywood action with a flawed central character who is complicated and struggling to find himself and his place in the world.

  • The Informant will film in Chicago for one day:

It will be quick, but Matt Damon hits town May 24 for one day of filming on ''The Informant'' -- mostly lensing Downstate.

  • A walk-on role in The Informant is up for auction at Ebay to support the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center.

  • Matt and Lucy have donated a pre-loved diaper bag (valued at $198) to support children's charities - also at Ebay.

This is pretty ridiculous: Matt came in at number 23 on Time's list of the most influential people (voted on by the public). To put that in perspective, Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks were both in the top 10.

And there's some support for Matt's idea of a Bourne game like Myst (not taken up by the developers):

    Time 100 List

I didn't think Matt would score that highly, so I was pleasantly surprised. I admit that Project Runway and America's Next Top Model are a guilty pleasure in my house and Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum are probably more in the public eye. Matt tends to have a low profile unless he's promoting something.

I would guess that the voters are younger, trendy types, so Matt coming in at 23 not too shabby I think.

I was shocked at Mike Huckabee coming in higher than Nelson Mandela though! Marcia

Computer games are my guilty pleasure and *Myst* my all-time favourite. I hate violence in my games; you have no idea how difficult it is to try to find a good one without that.

Had the developers come up with a Myst-like Bourne game that Matt would lend his voice to I would have been beyond ecstatic.

Many posting comments on the gaming sites are getting nasty about Matt's comments that he didn't want to be involved in the Bourne game, especially after a games producer said Matt's been approached many times and has always said no. Mostly an ignorant bunch who aren't bothering to check facts or compare the movie v video objectives.

    an ignorant bunch

Man, you said it! Reading those sites is so depressing - a new low in reporting. It's not even reporting so much as baiting. I actually saw a site yesterday that implied the game producers didn't miss Damon's input because Robert Ludlum (the writer of the Bourne series) had "collaborated" with them!

AMAZING, especially considering he's been DEAD FOR 7 YEARS!!!!!

These game websites are obviously just shills for corporate manufacturers. Enlightening, if sad.

Even so, some of the boards that have the most intelligent responders have a suprising number of people grudgingly admitting that Matt has a point, in that the game could have been much more interesting.

I'm amazed these people can even write.....but then from what I've seen, they can barely. Jan

A great summary of the videogames quote debacle is at Variety:

Thanks so much for that link! The quote about gamers being for the most part young, stupid and gullible really rings true with many of those kotaku posters. No wonder that site reminds me of Lord of the Flies!

    Matt in Decatur

The first photo of Matt in Decatur (at a local restaurant) on Thursday with local fans has been up for about 7 hours.

    Available here:

And some details of filming to be conducted next week:

Matt Damon's movie "The Informant" starts filming in Forsyth this week. And it's the talk of the town.

Hickory Point Mall in Forsyth has been turned into Christmas in May just to set the scene for the movie and the highest bidder just might get to rub shoulders with Matt Damon.

    Video footage of filming

Video of Matt (in a fairly crazy wig and outfit) filming The Informant in Decatur is here:

(It's meant to be an obvious hair-piece.)

    Re: Video footage of filming

Is that really Matt, or a stand-in? Kinda round-faced; when did he gain that much weight? And is that really a wig? Or his hair grown out and blow-dried? He had this kind of hair in GWH, and granted that was 10 years ago, but he's not balding. But that mustache...that's gotta go. :)

    Re: Video footage of filming

The whole look is pretty frightening (took me a while to believe it was him). Matt signed autographed and met fans after the brief shoot - lots of photos here (May 4 gallery):

    Re: pics

Pics are fabulous - thanks. I read somewhere (probably here!) that Matt said this would be his best role since Ripley. No wonder he's excited, he's never looked so unlike himself! I'll have to go get the book.

    Re: pics

The book is really entertaining reading and definitely worthwhile.

    Re: pics

Do you know if he'll be there today? It said filming will be on for the week but it doesn't mean he'll still be there. I'm driving 3 hours up there and man...it would be a real bummer.

    Re: pics

No idea (hey, I'm in Australia). Look for items on the local news or the IMDB board for the movie:

They're filming all round the Decatur area in a given day so it's a long shot to know where they'll be. They're obviously at the Hickory Point Mall in Forsyth sometime this week, but I've got no clue as to exact dates.

    Re: pics

I went to the mall. They are shooting tomorrow. But thanks! It really did give me a step ahead since there were people from the town. But like you said, it's looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Wow that is some hair piece. Its definately a very interesting look. He looks like The Talented Mr. Ripley gone old. haha

    Thanks for posting!
