Informant, various
  • One of Matt's speeches at the Spike 'Guys Choice Awards' included a shout-out to the Boston Celtics - from the Globe.

During a taping of Spike TV's "Guys Choice" Awards last Friday in Los Angeles, actor and Cambridge native Matt Damon was booed after telling the crowd what he thinks the Celtics will do to the Lakers. "I'd like to let everyone know that categorically, positively, unequivocally, undeniably, we are going to kick your [butt]," said Damon. Damon also gave a shout out to the All-Star trio of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce, and said, "I'm not going to switch teams just because I'm outnumbered."

  • Two new Informant-related reports from the Herald & Review are here and here.

  • Actor Tom Wilson talked about working on The Informant at his blog, including:

I'm finishing up the filming of "The Informant," and it's been terrific acting with Matt Damon - a great, funny guy and a tremendous actor - and an amazing cast, with the highlight for me being spending a day with Dick Smothers.

  • This report claims that The Informant will film at 811 Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles from Wednesday to Friday.

  • Francois Pienaar has told a South African paper that he met with producers of The Human Factor last week, but does not know how much involvement he will have in the film.

    The Human Factor

The book which forms the basis for The Human Factor has changed its title, and is now called 'Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Made a Nation'.

    The Amazon link is here:

Another article from South Africa with more details about the film and a comment from Pienaar is below. Pre-production has already commenced in Johannesburg, and the book will be launched by Morgan Freeman in New York next month.

No problems and thanks for the link - I've been waiting for the clip to re-appear (it was taken off the site last week).

And I would expect to see Matt at the Celtics games this week in LA (held a day before and a day after Isabella's birthday).

Clint Eastwood Interview in The Sunday Times

    Hi Felicity

Some quotes from an interview reprinted in The Sunday Times magazine from an interview he gave to Le Monde 2, I assume to promote The Changeling at Cannes.

'She (Jolie) came in in the morning, looked at the work schedule, and was very attentive during rehearsals. The crew was primed to do very few takes. I start by asking the actress to do the scene calmly, just for me. The cameraman films discreetly in the background, and sometimes the result is just what we need. If it is good, the following ones are unlikely to be any better'.

After working with him on The Bridges of Madison County, Meryl Streep said she had never seen such a calm set. 'You worked so quickly that rehearsals sometimes ended up in the final cut'. 'People exaggerated a little about this,' says Eastwood. 'I try to keep the first take, but I don't always manage to'.

The article goes on to say that he doesn't like his actors too thoroughly prepared, as they can suffer in terms of spontaneity. He likes to see his actors mistakes in the final cut because they are human mistakes not actors mistakes.

I think it gives a good idea of what Matt can expect next year.

Thanks for all the great pics and info over the last few weeks. Marcia

Re: Clint Eastwood Interview in The Sunday Times

Thanks for the interview text Marcia.

Eastwood's sounding a little more structured than Paul Greengrass, who on the set of 'Green Zone' apparently didn't give the actors a script but only a rough idea of what he wanted in the scene. Greengrass then sought spontanaeity from the actors, and for them not to be prepared when making up their own dialogue from life experiences (particularly the soldiers).

From the DVD extras on Flags of our Fathers, Eastwood seemed to keep a light, respectful set, with lots of older crew members who had been with him a long time.

And back to basketball: Ben's apparently in LA too, so it could be Matt and Ben at the Celtics/Lakers game on Tuesday if they can get (or are given) tickets.

    Celtics v Lakers

An AP report claims Matt and Ben are at the game, but I haven't found any photos yet. Please post if anyone finds photos (or video) or sees them while watching the game.

    Re: Celtics v Lakers

gosh there are tons of imaged celebs ... but Matt & Ben probably didn't sit near front row courtside. seems like DonnieW was the only celeb showing off in his celtic jersey :)... loved it.
guess Nicholson found his second living room in the staples center already. he is hilarious and a real rooter when it comes to LA bball.
btw - great game even if LA won. Kobe showed a MVP-worthy performance. but ehj... we haven't yet seen the end of the matter :D.
