  • The trailer for Ponyo has been released. A description of the film is below.

The film's story was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Little Mermaid." Already a box-office success in Japan, the story of a young and overeager goldfish named Ponyo (voiced by Noah Cyrus) and her quest to become human features the voices of Cate Blanchett, Matt Damon, Tina Fey, Cloris Leachman, Liam Neeson, Lily Tomlin, Betty White and Frankie Jonas as Sosuke, a young boy who befriends Ponyo.

  • As previously mentioned, Matt has contributed to an audiobook of Nelson Mandela's favorite African folktales. Sales of the book benefit children in South Africa orphaned and impacted by HIV/AIDS. An excerpt of Matt's story is now available at the official site, with the book to be available in coming days.

    Grateful fellow Aussie.

I have followed your website for a couple of years now. It's fantastic how you keep it up to date. Thank you for the enjoyment. Hoping to see Matt in Sydney sometime soon with all the movie releases coming up soon.

    Re: Grateful fellow Aussie.

Thanks for the comment. Sydney's always a possibility as he's visited there for each Bourne movie.

The one hour show on the making of Running the Sahara is now on Foxtel (Nat Geo channel).

If you find any Australian press please post any references - the local magazines these days virtually ignore Matt.

How's this for a nasty story from the New York Post (and of course she's not an interior decorator/designer).

    Good luck hunting
Matt Damon's alter-ego, Jason Bourne, might be able to break into any apartment, but the star doesn't stand a chance of getting approved by one of the city's snootiest co-op boards.
Damon, 38, and his stunning wife, Luciana, 33, have been house-hunting for their dream home: a three- or four-bedroom Fifth Avenue prewar apartment with Central Park views.
One unit they saw at 1010 Fifth Ave. even shared a semi-private landing with Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr.
People in the entertainment industry are a hard enough sell for Fifth. In addition, Damon's wife -- who once worked as a bartender (gasp!) -- is a deal-breaker, say sources, even if she's now an interior decorator.
"They don't have a prayer," says one broker. "They just don't understand the difference between a co-op and a condo on the Upper East Side."

    Re: Elitism

Matt's chosen a life in the public eye but his wife hasn't,I wish the media would leave her and her daughter from her previous marriage alone.

Why do people have a problem because she once worked in a bar?

Even the makers of Family Guy are at it, a really nasty dig at Matt and the fact that he married a bartender with a child whilst Ben married a fellow actor, as if one is better than the other, how infantile can they get?

Elitism sometimes hides a deeper insecurity about status. Marcia

P.S Love the pic of him taking off his shirt, put a smile on my face this morning.

    Re: Elitism

I'm sure stories like this one are painful for Lucy and Matt. Unnecessary and unpleasant reporting from the Post.

Happy that someone liked the photo :-) So many gratuitous shots in one week...

    Green Zone

HitFix is reporting that Green Zone has been moved to 2010 (although they give themselves an out by saying that could change due to Oscar expansion). If true, I'm bummed but not particularly suprised. Hurt Locker has been getting amazing reviews and the producers may feel some crowding in the marketplace.

    Heard anything?

    Re: Green Zone

Saw that report and was trying to ignore it (but I did update the calendar with a TBA 2009/2010).

Universal's really not caring about Green Zone at the moment. The film's finished but it may be better to wait for Summer 2010 and sell it as a summer movie rather than fall. And it would be one less movie for Matt's cluttered end of 2009.

Hurt Locker was always going to be competition once it got great reviews in Toronto 2008. I think Universal's just overly cautious about the movie, its budget and subject matter.

    Re: Green Zone

Critic Scott Feinberg wrote on his Twitter page that he's got it "on pretty good authority" that Green Zone will be a 2009 release.

Other critics (including Kris Tapley) and Variety are claiming it's a possible 2010 release.

    Re: Green Zone

I agree completely. There is never any background chatter from Universal about Green Zone and in the summer they can sell it as a patented Greengrass 'smart thriller/action piece' rather than a war movie.

ET will air a preview or a trailer for an upcoming Matt movie today (Friday). It's probably for The Informant, as the trailer is likely to be released with prints of Public Enemies next Friday.

    Wyclef Jean

Matt was briefly on a Wyclef Jean video last night regarding Wyclef's work in Haiti. Wyclef mentioned all the good work Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon has done and said he first lived in a hut, then the projects and now a mansion. He told the audience that they had no excuse but needed to get involved in humanitarian projects. He deserved that Humanitarian Award!

Thanks for the report - I think it was on the BET Awards.
