Interviews, mixed media reports
  • In an interview with the Italian paper La Stampa, Matt states that he will be filming a project with George Clooney before the Liberace project, scheduled for June 2010. The Clooney project is likely to be the previously mentioned film about Osama Bin Laden's driver, and his legal challenge - reports are here and here.

    Question: What's in your future?
Matt: From next month I'll be back to work with Clint in Hereafter. Then I'll make a film with the Coen brothers, True Grit, with Jeff Bridges. Then another movie with Clooney and then again with Soderbergh. I'm very lucky.

  • An interesting interview with Matt is at the French magazine Gala - some translated excerpts:

Gala: What is your recurring nightmare?
MD: I'm riding my bike in the middle of a deserted road and I can not stop pedaling. Like I'm being forced. Just mentioning it, I'm shaking!

Gala: What do you think in the morning when you look in the mirror?
MD: That I am simply the luckiest man in the world. I have an exciting job, a career that I love and a really great family.

    Gala: What stresses you most?
MD: I am an eternal worrier, so everything stresses me. Most recently, when I realized that the handle of my refrigerator was scratched. I was sick!

Gala: What can prevent you from sleeping?
MD : I can not stand to see children suffering. For me it is unbearable. Even more so since I have become a father.

  • Dave Karger of EW on his Christmas Oscar longshots:

Best Actor: Matt Damon, The Informant!
At this point, Damon seems like a good bet for a supporting nod for Invictus. And that’s fine. But his more impressive work was as the world’s worst whistle-blower in Steven Soderbergh’s out-there comedy. Bonus points for Damon’s impeccable voice-over work in the film.

  • And from EW's Lisa Schwarzbaum top ten movie marvels of the decade:

    10. A parting pronouncement: Matt Damon is the decade’s top under-the-radar Hollywood star, the movies’ MVP.

  • Matt's on the cover of the new issue of UK's Empire magazine, promoting another exclusive preview of Green Zone.

  • A sighting from the Miami Herald (which relates to 23 December):

Matt Damon was spotted solo at Cafe Prima Pasta on Wednesday night, sipping a Peroni while waiting for his takeout order for two of chicken limone and gnocchi formaggi.

  • Erroneous reports from the Australian media claimed Matt was on a cruise ship off the coast of Australia and would be in Sydney for New Year's Eve. This was completely false. The Boston Herald claims Matt will be in Cambridge with family for NYE - and indeed, Matt was in Boston with his family for New Year's.

We hear: That Matt Damon and family are in Cambridge for New Year’s weekend - perhaps we will see them at Fenway Friday?

Thanks, that's a few months old, but a good collection.

False Sydney reports and National Enquirer

More reports about Matt in Sydney are

Channel 10 News just reported that according to crew from the boat Matt is not a passenger, and that's backed up by another report saying he's not in Australia. But many people still think he's in Sydney (see the first link).

Can anybody in the US access this National Enquirer story? It's not available in Australia. The title and caption probably say it all.

Damon and Blunt judge nekkid body doubles

Re: False Sydney reports and National Enquirer

Not sure if you can copy directly from one site to another so I'll just tell you that the National Enquirer story is about Matt and Emily Blunt refusing to pose naked together while filming The Adjustment Bureau. The producers argued in vain. Matt and Emily finally agreed to have their heads pssted onto body doubles.

If I won't violate any copyright laws I'll cut and paste the whole article in - just let me know. It's about three small paragraphs. I don't think I'd trust content from National Enquirer though.

Re: False Sydney reports and National Enquirer

Thanks MJ. There's no reason they would need to pose naked anyway...

Funny in light of the current EW story (George Clooney says he will never use a double for any part of his body, Vera Farmiga used a body double for her nude scene).

    Jonathon Ross show

And another show I can't watch in Australia.

Did any readers in the UK see the latest show from Jonathon Ross? There's a reference on the site to a few celebs, including Matt, naming their favourite films of the year. My guess for Matt's answer is 'Up in the air', but the video is not available in Australia.

    The video is here:

Jonathan Ross and his studio guests reflect on a year which brought Oscar glory for Slumdog Millionaire, box office success for the reborn Star Trek - and saw teenage vampires conquer the world in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Plus stars including Matt Damon, Zac Efron and Julianne Moore reveal which film gets their vote as the very best of 2009.

    Re: Jonathon Ross show

I can't see the Ross interview, either.

These 'Where is Waldo' type reports about Matt seem to have reached a crescendo, as there are now actual news articles about the conflicting reports. So funny. I expect we'll know by tomorrow, as somebody somewhere will probably get a picture.

    Re: Jonathon Ross show

There's a few new Twitter sightings in the last few hours of Matt in Boston. Solved.

    Re: Jonathon Ross show

We taped the show and Matt said that he hasn't seen any films in 2009 because he has small children, and had only seen the Little Mermaid, but he laughed as he said it. That was it. Marcia

The Boston Herald has a sighting from a few days ago:

"Invictus" star Matt Damon and fam dining at Stephanie’s on Newbury.

But the Boston Globe couldn't even work out that he was in town and claimed he was in Australia. Standards have slipped at the Globe...

    Re: Boston

I wrote to the Globe and left a comment, and it may have contributed to the retraction in today's paper:

Aussies thrown for a loop by Damon look-alike
Where in the world was Matt Damon on New Year’s Eve? Apparently not in Sydney. Despite reports (including our own) that the hometown actor rang in 2010 on a cruise ship docked in Darling Harbor, Damon and his family were at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge for New Year’s weekend. We hear that Damon and wife Luciana barely left their room. Reports of Damon in Australia began surfacing in various Aussie newspapers shortly after Christmas. The Daily Telegraph reported that Damon was spotted in the country as recently as Friday. “Damon (or a man who looked suspiciously like him) happily signed autographs for staff and customers at the Batehaven Fish Shop on Sunday, warmly responding and signing the megastar’s name before signing a petition to support a local delicacy - vodka dipping sauce.’’ We wonder who Damon’s doppelganger might have been - because as of Friday afternoon, he was checked in at the Charles.
