More Golden Globes coverage, Hereafter
  • Photos from the Golden Globes are at PopSugar: WB party, Weinstein party, and a photo of Matt, Lucy and Jennifer Garner. Other photos are at Socialite Life here and here and Just Jared. The photo of Matt, Lucy and Martin Scorsese is from ET Online. Reports from the parties are at USA Today, People and People part 2. Lucy's jewelery was from Fred Leighton, and details of Matt's outfit are at Just Jared.

    USA Today
Damon spent an inordinate amount of time chatting with Geoffrey Fletcher, who wrote the screenplay for Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire.

"We were in the same freshman dorm together" at Harvard, Damon said. "I used to call him Fletch, but now he's Geoffrey Fletcher. I'm really proud of him. He's going to have a huge career and he deserves it. I'm telling him, 'Look, I want to direct. You've got to write me something. How can you write Precious and not bring it to me first?'"

Damon liked Meryl Streep's acceptance speech. "I thought Meryl did a good job of tempering, giving everything that's going on. It was really tough to come out and do this, I think for a lot of people. It feels weird. But there were enough of us who felt like if we get up, we'll be able to push some attention towards Partners in Health, Doctors without Borders, UNICEF, Red Cross and people who are doing really good work in Haiti."

Clooney, fresh off a marathon effort to organize a Haiti benefit telethon, all smiles as he squired Italian beauty Canalis to her the Globes. The pair spent the evening hand-in-hand, and during commercial breaks could be found chatting animatedly with another loved-up pair: Matt Damon and wife Lucy.

At the InStyle/Warner Brothers post-Globes bash at the Beverly Hilton, Heidi Klum enjoyed a sweet end to the evening with hubby Seal. The two nibbled on Godiva chocolate, with the Project Runway host grabbing some chocolate macaroons while her husband ate the dark chocolate almond bark. Also having a sweet time at the party: Matt Damon and wife Luciana.

    Just Jared
The 39-year-old actor wore a black grosgrain peak lapel one button tuxedo with a white tuxedo shirt, and black silk tie, all by Brioni, as well as a pair of Ferragamo black leather lace-up shoes.

  • Details of the Invictus premiere on 31 January in London, where Matt, Morgan and Clint are scheduled to attend, are here.

  • Matt starting filming his scenes for Hereafter in San Francisco on Monday. One photo from a scene at the airport is here.

  • Emily Blunt discussed working with Matt in a video interview with Anne Thompson on 17 January here. My transcript is below:

Anne: What was it like working with Matt?
Emily: Awesome. Saw him last night. Awesome. He's great. He's just made for it, this business. This job, it's just so easy for him.

Anne: And yet he's held on to a certain kind of integrity.
Emily: He's full of integrity and he's super honest and he's laid back about it and he's got a wonderful wife and his kids are great. That's what he cares about, more than anything, is whether they are OK.

Did any other Australian or New Zealanders see Invictus today when it opened?

Saw it tonight in a reasonably well attended cinema, with South Africans and New Zealanders in the audience. I also have grown up on rugby union (and league), and even stayed up early in the morning to watch the actual World Cup Final live. So I was caring more than those not familiar with rugby union about whether they got the players right, the game right etc.

I really enjoyed the movie, though I can see why Americans both stayed away and loved it, and Matt's performance both pleased and non-plussed others. I've also read just about every review of the movie, read the original book by John Carlin, Pienaar's autobigraphy and many other reports etc.

I thought they got a lot of the rugby bits right, but others were very fake. Some small mannerisms at different times were very accurate, but many players (particularly Scott Eastwood and Grant Roberts) stood out as being in the wrong movie. And footage of the final game (which wasn't exciting to start with), was too long and monotonous. The last 20 or so minutes were just repeating the same scenes with the same people over again.

A lot of people complained about the music, but I didn't find it as bad as expected, and other small scenes were not worth the hate (preparation for the fly-over, ghost scene etc).

It was Eastwood's movie without interference, and I admire him for it, even though there are so many obvious flaws, particularly the stereotypical characters, amazing reconciliations, repetitive scenes, and the lack of character development (or complete absence of Pienaar's character or personality).

I admire Matt's accent, and thought he's never looked more appealing or attractive in a movie, even though he was photographed dreadfully in many scenes (bad lighting to make him look unattractive or old?) He's the stoic presence who leads by example and underplays the character beautifully.

Enough from me. Any other comments or reviews?

I thought that Matt might be involved in George Clooney's telethon for Haiti tonight but I haven't seen his name connected with it. Has anyone seen anything?

Matt stated in I think the USA today article that he was going to participate from the bay area, so I dont think he will be there answering phones, but he is going to do something. He is included on the list in this article from Mtv. http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1630214/20100122/story.jhtml

He's in quite a few of the lists of those participating, and Clint Eastwood is as well, presumably also from San Francisco.

I'm not sure though if Matt is attending the SAG Awards on Saturday in LA (he was in the seating plan shown on ET yesterday).

    Haiti telethon

Matt and Clint were just on the telethon from San Francisco. They were paying tribute to the UN peacekeepers who died in the earthquake. Frank McKenna previously stated that many of the UN staff he met with Matt in 2008 have died.

Matt and Clint were on after a song from Sting, and before Beyonce.

    Lucy's dress

    A late fashion update...

Lucy's strapless satin dress for the Golden Globes was by Dolce & Gabbana. Her leopard print stretch satin dress for the Invictus LA premiere was also by Dolce & Gabbana.

A tweet from PopSugar following a conversation with Ben at Sundance:

@heypopsugar: Ben Affleck says he and Matt Damon are planning to open a production company together soon #sundance

?? How does Matt have any time to contribute to a new company, probably based in LA?

    Re: Ben

Was he not talking about a possible move to LA permantly? That would make it a bit easier maybe?

    Re: Ben

Still can't see Matt ever settling in LA. Too much paparazzi and such an artificial industry town.

    SAG Awards

Matt is at the SAG awards and is sitting near Alec Baldwin (seen when Alex walked through the crowd to collect his award). Matt's also in front of Julianna Marguiles and The Good Wife table.

Lucy's sitting in front of Matt.
