    Oscar luncheon

Matt isn't scheduled to attend the Oscar nominees luncheon on Monday, according to two reports today. A reason hasn't been specified.

This continues Matt's seeming lack of interest in the whole awards season: no red carpets, no presenting slots, no comments about his awards (except for one late brief comment to limited outlets re the Oscar nom), no special functions to celebrate the nomination.

On the one hand, that's a mistake on Matt's part--"out of sight, out of mind". On the other, we're born, we live and enjoy our families and, if we're smart, stick to the things with real--not Hollywood political--value. Then, of course, we all mosey along, and it's all gone anyway--at least for this planet. Matt knows that what's rewarded at the Oscars is often not the best performance or best picture or best whatever. It's what studio pushed the hardest. When Matt is old, I'm guessing he'll still be married to Lucy and his kids will love and honor him. He will have the profound respect of his thoughtful peers, and he will have accomplished great charitable deeds for which he will be recognized. Life doesn't hold any bigger awards.

    Re: Oscar luncheon

All true. But I want him to enjoy some of the perks of the film job. He said after attending the Oscar photocall in 1999 that it was one of the highlights of his life to date. And now it appears he won't even turn up to show his interest in the process. It is political, and perceptions matter.

    Re: Oscar luncheon

I've just seen the first promos for "Green Zone". Matt sounds like Bourne on steroids. This may be a winner for the team. As for his present nom, I don't hear anything about Clint or the studio pushing very hard for Matt. Maybe he knows that and can't see exposing himself to what may be for him the embarrassment of a loss. I think that Matt is personally a very shy (maybe insecure) guy when it comes to seeking the approval of others. Happily, he has the confidence of his craft and artistry to throw into the mix. Sooner or later he'll be the overwhelming favorite and then, I'm guessing, he'll turn up at awards events. One guy's opinion.
