Paul Greengrass's possible next movie -would Matt consider a role?

Hope this isn't too off topic - Paul Greengrass supposedly may next direct a remake of Treasure Island, depending on the script. Just wondering if Matt would consider a role in it.

Doesn't sound like a Paul Greengrass movie to me, frankly, especially since Treasure Island has already been made into movies and TV shows more than 25 times, according to Wiki. But maybe he's looking for something that has a good chance of being a hit since Green Zone didn't do well.

The linked article said Paul was in the running to remake Fantastic Voyage in 3D for James Cameron (that doesn't sound like a Greengrass movie either, but I could see him directing that more than I could see him directing Treasure Island). But now Paul is supposedly out of the running, so maybe will do Treasure Island instead. Those both have a lot of male leading roles, so I wonder if Matt will at least consider Treasure Island if Paul directs.

Also, I wonder if Matt will be considered for the lead in "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" if Brad Pitt turns it down. That sounds like a better movie than Treasure Island! I believe the character is older than Matt, and since it's a trilogy they may end up wanting someone just turning 40 instead of an actor in his 40s or early 50s. I looked around the internet a while back and some people were already suggesting Matt would be a good choice before the movie was even a reality. I don't know too much about the director, though. (David Fincher)

Every hot young actress in Hollywood wants to play the lead in Sony Pictures' The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. But will director David Fincher cast one of them -- or go with an unknown? This is the studio's next 3-film franchise based on Swedish author Stieg Larsson's bestselling Millennium trilogy.

[Carey] Mulligan, Page, Kristen Stewart, Mia Wasikowska, Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Olivia Thirlby, and Scarlett Johannsen are all circling.

I hear Sony execs think the bestseller itself is such a phenom, and the material so exciting, that the twentysomething female lead doesn't need a name. On the other hand, they think the male lead does require a star, and the studio is waiting for an answer from Brad Pitt.

Re: Paul Greengrass's possible next movie -would Matt consider a role?

The Swedish version of Girl with the dragon tattoo is great and they don't need an English version. Matt wouldn't really be right for the main character (and neither is Brad Pitt) - he should be older, sadder, greyer.

I don't think Matt and Paul would sign up again for another non-Bourne project. There are too many echoes (good and bad now) of their former work and Paul probably wants to strike out on his own. Can't see what another version of Treasure Island will add to the world.

Re: Paul Greengrass's possible next movie -would Matt consider a role?

Thanks for your opinion on Matt probably not being right for the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I haven't read any of the books, just some summaries that make it sound good, so it's good to hear from someone who has seen the movie. I knew the character was older but not what he was like. I did notice that the actor who plays the part in the Swedish film is about 50.

You said:"The Swedish version of Girl with the dragon tattoo is great and they don't need an English version."

As you know, that (unfortunately) won't stop the Hollywood folks. :-) Or stop them from casting someone who doesn't look the part. But from reading stuff online I think your opinion seems to be the prevailing one; that this movie doesn't need to be remade. It's sad that Treasure Island and a whole bunch of movies that don't need to be remade or have "prequels" are getting made, so I suspect Dragon Tattoo will go forward in this current atmosphere. There doesn't seem to be much appetite for new stories in Hollywood anymore, I guess they don't make enough money.

Which is probably why Paul Greengrass is trying to do some of these big movies; if he doesn't bring in the money, he won't get offered these directing gigs anymore. Just like Steven Soderbergh really needs Contagion to do well after The Informant, Che, and The Girlfriend Experience didn't do so well (and he also basically got fired from directing Moneyball, the movie with Brad Pitt that now has a new director). Otherwise, I doubt the Liberace movie with Matt will get out of pre-production.

Re: Paul Greengrass's possible next movie -would Matt consider a role?

An article published today stated the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and the two other books comprising the trilogy will be all be filmed together. So Matt wouldn't end up having one advantage I thought he might have, that he's younger than some of the other men supposedly in the running if Brad Pitt turns it down (the usual suspects - Depp, Clooney)and wouldn't age as much if filming took six or seven years.

Matt likely also wouldn't want to sign on to film a movie and two sequels all in a row - but then again, maybe if they were all filmed in New York City, he might consider it. :-)
