30 Rock, Toronto events
  • Stills from Matt's next episode of 30 Rock are here. A summary of the episode is here, and another photo of Matt on the set with Grizz is here. Tina Fey also discussed the role here.

    "The Fabian Strategy"
09/23/2010 (08:30PM - 09:00PM) (Thursday) : JACK DONAGHY (ALEC BALDWIN) MEDDLES IN LIZ LEMON'S (TINA FEY) BURGEONING RELATIONSHIP WITH CAROL (GUEST STAR MATT DAMON) Determined to help Liz (Fey) keep a man for once, Jack (Baldwin) meddles in her burgeoning relationship with Carol (guest star Damon). At home, he also struggles to compromise with Avery as she redecorates his apartment. Meanwhile, Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) has trouble coming to grips with Kenneth's (Jack McBrayer) termination as a page and Jenna (Jane Krakowski) becomes TGS' newest producer. Also starring: Judah Friedlander, Scott Adsit, Keith Powell and Katrina Bowden.

Liz Lemon's getting a boyfriend: "I shot with Matt Damon last week. He was hilarious," says 30 Rock's Tina Fey. "He's my boyfriend when the season begins. We find out he's a very, very sensitive gentleman with many emotions. Just an onslaught of emotions. Hopefully we'll see him again later in the season."

  • A National Post Twitter account announced an upcoming Toronto charity event for Haiti relief, probably for OneXOne (who are also planning a party for Saturday night):

Announced today.....TIFF lunch with Matt Damon can be yours for a cool $2500 next Saturday....proceeds go to Haiti relief. 150 peeps.

  • From an interview with Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane on CNN:

PINSKY: Let me ask you this, are there any skits or bits that you've done on "FAMILY GUY" that you regret?

MACFARLANE: You know, we made a joke about Matt Damon that I think was a little over the line. Somebody about him marrying a bartender, and it was uncalled for and I think Matt Damon's a great guy. And I admire him on many levels. That's one I kind of wish we hadn`t done.

  • From an article on George Clooney at New York Magazine:

At a salty-haired 49, Clooney is unlikely to reinvent himself now — especially given that he has the career every other actor dreams of having. Tom Hanks used to hold this honor, and Matt Damon, Clooney's sidekick, looks like the heir apparent.

But for now, Clooney wears the crown: He acts, he directs, he does philanthropy, he smiles on the red carpet, and the tabloids stay far away from his private life. His roles seemed designed to say "Hey, being George Clooney isn't all fun and glamor." (Damon, on the other hand, can do this more successfully and less obviously, since he's not Cary Grant reincarnate; he's Matt Damon.)

  • From an interview with actor Branko Tomovic, who worked with Matt on Bourne Ultimatum:

Question: How did you find working with Matt Damon and the other cast members of ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’?

Tomovic: I actually ‘only’ had scenes with Matt Damon. We were shooting at Pinewood Studios in London and also in East Berlin which they transformed into Moscow with fake snow, Russian cars and everything else. All that remained of me became the opening scene of ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ with Matt as Jason Bourne and me as the Russian Policeman in the pharmacy what we shot in London. Matt is such a nice guy, very approachable and down to earth. A great colleague and even more important a brilliant actor. Between takes, he would go from chatting nicely with you to having that haunted Jason Bourne look in his eyes on camera in only one second. And I think it always helps your own performance if you have such a strong actor opposite you, it really raises the bar.

    Family Guy

Really interesting to read that. I think the quality of Family Guy has gone down a lot in the last couple of season's, I don't really like it any more, and I thought that particular episode, disrespecting Lucy because she once worked in a bar was really horrible. Their attitude toward women often comes across as worryingly misogynistic.

I'm glad that Seth Mcfarlane is big enough to admit when he's made a mistake and apologise in public. I don't know if Matt and Lucy watch the show, but the apology is nice. Marcia

    Re: Family Guy

Ive never watched Family Guy so the comment about Lucy i hadnt heard of until now and im shocked, what a horrible thing to say, Lucy may have been a Bartender (nothing wrong in that) but she was a single mum supporting her child, at least she wasnt sponging of the social, people seem to forget that and i applaud her for working to support her child. Re: Family Guy

The line was something like "Ben Affleck married Jennifer Garner and Matt Damon married a bartender with a child."

    Re: Family Guy

It's official - I'm never watching Family Guy again!

    Re: Family Guy

It was a throw away line about Matt having a big head, and then one of the characters (I can't remember which one) said something like: "yeah and he married a bartender .... with a kid, at least Ben married an actress". Something like that with a really sneery tone.

I agree with Froggy, Lucy was working to support herself and her child an not expecting the State to do it, she should be applauded not mocked. Seth Mcfarlane won't ever be in a position where he has to raise a child on his own in a job that probably doesn't pay much more than the minimum wage, and keeps his days free so he can spend time with his child. A very misogynist and snob line.I saw that episode and was awful.
I like the comment about Matt being Clooney's heir. Syl

I agree that what was said was mean, but it's Family Guy and it's probably one of the less mean things ever said on the show.

Never seen the show. But it's a comic show, and if they don't make little digs at somebody, there's little point to the program.

    We bought a zoo, Toronto

Matt's attending a OneXOne event on Saturday night in Toronto, so he won't be attending Ben's premiere. The Hereafter trailer will be released with Ben's movie on 17 September.

Updates from Ben Mee on Twitter on We Bought A Zoo:

It's an American adaptation. Production should start before the end of the year. it's not filming on Dartmoor.

Re: We bought a zoo, Toronto

Sorry to hear they won't be shooting in England. And now Matt probably won't shave his head either. Too bad, I love his 'Scotty Doesn't Know" look!

Re: We bought a zoo, Toronto

I think it's really sad that they aren't shooting in the UK and are making the family American. Yeah it will be the same story, but it's just sad they are changing such a big thing about it.

Re: We bought a zoo, Toronto

Yes, one of the appealing things about the story was its 'Englishness'. Disappointing, but I guess Matt knew about the change from the start and still believed in the story.
