Matt Damon News Column
OneXOne NY event, Bourne
  • Matt attended the OneXOne fundraiser in NY on Wednesday (Lucy did not attend). Photos are at Zimbio, and a report on the event is in Roger Friedman's column. A video from the red carpet, including Matt talking about "beautiful and perfect" baby Stella, is at the BBC.

Patricia Arquette is so cool: she won a Humanitarian award last night from Matt Damon’s very impressive OneXOne charity. She’s been going back and forth to Haiti for months helping to provide the people with sanitation and drinking water. It’s not glamorous.

Matt Damon accepted congrats on the birth of his fourth daughter last week.

  • As part of an interview at EW to discuss water.org, Matt was asked about Bourne and upcoming film projects by Dave Karger.

Damon wanted to clarify his comments a bit, so while we were on the phone for him for an upcoming EW feature about his charity, Water.org, we quizzed him on the flare-up.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: I hear you’re not entirely happy with the quotes that have appeared online about the Bourne situation. So what happened?
MATT DAMON: I was in a roundtable and they were, like, badgering me about the next Bourne movie. And I was like, “I don’t know, guys, they didn’t call me. They’re doing another movie with Tony.” I think it’s a smart thing to do. It doesn’t interfere with Paul [Greengrass] and me doing a movie. As I understand it, if you think of X-Men and then Wolverine, it’s just that process in reverse. Tony doesn’t want to hurt the Bourne story. So as I understand it, Jason Bourne is alive in the world that Tony’s going to create. I don’t appear in it, but it’s very much that world. As far as Paul and I are concerned, as long as there’s room for us to come in and do another one, we’re thrilled.

EW: So in a perfect world, when would you think about getting together with Paul again? How booked up are you right now?
Matt: Not really that booked up. I’m doing a few weeks on Contagion with [Steven] Soderbergh, and then I’m doing Cameron Crowe’s movie [We Built A Zoo] in the spring. And then we’re planning on doing Liberace in the summer with Michael [Douglas].

  • As expected, Matt will not sell out his baby daughter to promote a movie.

But one superstar baby you will not see is Matt Damon's little girl, Stella Zavala. Every magazine has called looking for the exclusive, but Matt likes to keep things private and has refused them all.

  • A family update from People:

Though the actor is done expanding his family, friend of Damon's tells PEOPLE he's over the moon about the latest addition to the clan.

"He just had a 40th birthday party in N.Y.C., and he and [Luciana] just looked so very much in love and [they are] just delighted about the baby ... I am really happy for him.”

  • Matt will be on CNN's Connect the world program on Thursday.

I just saw Hereafter and really enjoyed it (and not just because Matt was in it :)
It's amazing to me that some critics were unhappy with it...I don't want to spoil it for anyone,
so I'll just say it was better than I thought it would be (the ending was really satisfying to me, not a letdown like some have said) and the whole thing was just very original and creative. Matt's performance seemed totally effortless, I found it so believable - I would be very surprised if it gets any nominations though (much too low-key and realistic), and to call it a lead role is a bit silly because he really is only in a third of the movie...

Thanks for the comments G. I look forward to seeing it in February. So many people seem to have issues with the pacing, length and the ending, and others get upset because they were tricked into seeing a film with subtitles! But others do love it.

Matt only worked for 19 days on the film, so it's hard to see it as his movie (but natural for WB to sell it that way due to the co-stars). It should find a following on DVD/cable, and will do well internationally.
