Casting, field trip

  • Photos of Matt and Lucy at the Freeing Voices, Changing Lives Gala benefiting The American Institute for Stuttering are at premiere.fr and Just Jared. A report on the event is at The Daily Beast. The group photo from Marketwire is of Matt, Lucy, honoree Arthur Blank, Stephanie Blank, Emily, John and guest Sam Waterston.

  • Matt told New York Magazine that John Krasinski has been cast in his first directing project.

It's about time for Matt Damon to give Ben Affleck a run for his money as a writer-director, and he knows it. "I am coming closer to a directorial thing, yes," Damon told Vulture last night at the American Institute for Stuttering 5th Annual Benefit Gala. "I've got a few things that I really want to direct, and one I'm actually going to start at the first quarter of next year."

The go project is believed to be Father Daughter Time, a hot spec Warner Bros. picked up last month where Damon would play a criminal on the lam with his daughter, and though Damon wasn't telling, he did offer that "John Krasinski's in it." We wondered if he was joking, since Krasinski also happened to be on the red carpet with wife Emily Blunt, who'd co-starred with Damon in The Adjustment Bureau. But no, "I'm being dead serious!" Damon insisted.

  • On Wednesday Matt and John Krasinski took a flight to Messina, in northern New York State, and then did a road trip around various towns including Malone and Churubusco, possibly to look at wind farms (they met with a vocal wind-farm opponent). A report is at the Press Republican, and a few photos are at the Facebook page of Dick's Country Store and Music Oasis.

  • Is a Rounders sequel the project Matt is filming in NY later this year? More on the film from the NY Post:

Matt Damon was spotted meeting with Harvey Weinstein and "Ocean's 13" screenwriters Brian Koppelman and David Levien at Cipriani Downtown, to start a script on their poker movie, "Rounders 2." Edward Norton will join the sequel, sources say. In "Rounders," Damon played a law student dragged back into gambling by an ex-con pal. The 1998 movie was a box-office dud but became a DVD hit. Meanwhile, Damon's rep said after repeated calls about his postponed Anthony Weiner fund-raiser, "He's traveling, and I can't reach him."
