Contagion, Elysium
  • A press junket for Contagion ahead of the Venice Film Festival will be held in LA this weekend. Part of the press notes for the film are available at Starometer, including:

What makes “Contagion” so frightening on both an intellectual and a visceral level is that, while fictional, it is grounded in real science and real possibilities.

“Steven’s movies don’t leave any fat on the bone. They’re lean and fast.” That’s how Matt Damon describes the films of Steven Soderbergh whose latest project, Warner Bros.’ global thriller “Contagion” stars Damon, along with Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow.

“For a subject like this, that pace mirrors the progression of the infection itself and how things spiral very quickly out of control, so you want that sense of acceleration,” adds Damon. “Steven knows exactly how to keep multiple threads alive and cut back to each one at the right time. The story really moves.”

  • A new actor for Elysium, Sofia Sisniega, discusses the secrecy around her role in this translated Mexican article:

Sisniega will return to Mexico to film Elysium, a sci-fi movie that will star Matt Damon, Jodie Foster and Alice Braga.

"I'm happy but I'll only be a small part in this movie. I can not talk much about it as a matter of contract with the director, but it looks like it will be a good project. This is a story that mixes the futuristic with science fiction. I still do not know if I will have any scenes with Diego Luna."

    A couple of things..

TmZ has the video of Matt being asked about running for President.

And second a person on a movie message board that I go to and sees movies in advance had this to say about We Bought a Zoo...

"I've seen it. I agreed not to say too much. I'm not sure if it will be an Oscar contender, but it will be a huge crowd pleaser and probably do well at the box office. The folks I saw it with were all in tears at the theater and gave it a loud applause. Some parts worked for me, some parts didn't, but overall I thought it was enjoyable."

There's another test screening tonight around LA.

From what I've read it will be popular but isn't likely to win any awards, but good early word on Awards Daily is always a bonus.

    Contagion press

The junket starts Friday in LA. Matt may be appearing on Regis and Kelly (for the first time since 'All the pretty horses'?), but there's no date online yet.

    Re: Screenings, sightings

There were a lot of sightings of him yesterday on Granville island. Looks like he took a few fan pics. He told one fan he was on vacay. Must get tiresome when you just want to spend time with your family. I wonder if his brother are still in town. Can't wait for weekend. New interviews yay!

And he was on the Capilano suspension bridge today. Still doing all the tourist spots, probably with family.

Matt refused a meeting with Arne Duncan in Washington:

    We bought a zoo

Cameron Crowe discusses why the setting of the movie was moved to California:

Crowe: Plus, I wanted to work with Matt Damon, and I think he gets things done pretty well with his natural accent… so we started casting American actors, reading with them, setting the story here in California… and the real Benjamin Mee gave us a thumbs up… and that’s a mighty thumbs up.

There was a segment about Contagion on ET this evening. Pretty standard ET description of essential plot points and bits of the trailer. Also brief snippets of behind-the-scenes interviews with Gwyneth (Matt is a "sweetheart"), Matt (said he liked virus movies), and Jude Law. The only interesting part was when Matt said that in spite of the fact he and Fishburn were working on the movie together the only time he saw him was in the hotel bar. (lol)
