The Charlie Rose interview from last night is worthile viewing if anyone is interested in hearing Soderbergh thoughtfully discuss his impending 'break' from directing. Also included were the consultant to Contagion, Dr Lipkin, and the screenwriter (sorry, forgot his name for the moment).

And I've watched the trailer for Zoo a couple of more times now, and I think if I wasn't already a rabid MD fan, this would do it - he looks amazing - and he's adorable with the kids. lol.

That Italian interview is a firecracker!

Thanks for the links Paula - can't watch Hulu and will try to get it on YouTube.

Edited to add - the clip is at NBC:

There may be a few new quotes in this Cindy Pearlman interview:

    Abduction the wannabe Bourne

Lionsgate admit they're seeking to make their Bourne rip-off a Bourne rip-off series, and we also have this to look forward to:

The film has drawn parallels to Universal's wildly popular Matt Damon vehicle, The Bourne Identity, even including a reference to the film's star in one of its crucial scenes. While the premise of the films vary slightly, Drake told THR that he wouldn't mind taking a cue from the 2002 film.

"I know that Taylor and Lionsgate would both like to see this become a big franchise," he said. "You know, we think it's our Bourne."

Gus Van Sant talks a script that Matt and Ben never finished:

    5. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck definitely wrote “Good Will Hunting.”

One of the more popular conspiracy theories in Hollywood centers around Van Sant’s “Good Will Hunting,” written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The popular rumor suggests William Goldman was the scribe behind the film, or at least substantial re-writes. Instead of being outraged, the always placid director shrugged those comments off. “For some reason, we kept working on it,” Van Sant said, referring to the multiple script drafts. “It was perceived that it needed another draft. Matt and Ben had written ten drafts. I was watching them write entire new scenes. We were very involved in writing new stuff. I never saw any reason to think that someone else was responsible for any previous work.”

    6. The filmmaker wants to sees Damon and Affleck return to the script they were working on after “Good Will Hunting”
He did say that the pair, who haven’t written together since their Oscar win, had another script being planned. “There is some kind of script that Matt has written, but I’m not sure,” Van Sant said, a little sketchy with the details. “I think they’ve done what they wanted to do. Right after ‘Good Will Hunting,’ they had a script that they were working on, in the same way. Casey [Affleck] was helping them too. The plot [concerned teenagers] in a halfway house. After they got a ways into [developing] it, there wasn’t really a script yet, and they got too busy. But they did have a script that was going to be the next one, and Ben was going to direct it. They should go back and do that.” We agree, especially since Affleck is a full blown director and Matt’s directorial debut starring John Krasinski is (rumored to be) shooting in the new year.

A fundraiser for Haiti next week hosted by Donna Karan (I doubt Ben would attend)?

Haiti will be the center point next week when she hosts an event celebrating the book “Haiti After the Earthquake”; former President Bill Clinton, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are expected to attend. This weekend, she’s due to participate in the WIE Symposium (Women: Inspiration & Enterprise) over the weekend alongside big names such as Arianna Huffington and Christy Turlington.

    Re: Various

Matt's likely to attend the book event if he's not filming - the book is by Paul Farmer. It may be held as an event during the Clinton Global Initiative next week, but Matt (and Gary White) are not scheduled to attend.

Matt's was filming in Vancouver on Friday, but came back to NY on the redeye. Filming is still scheduled for Mexico City, according to one of the actors, with Vancouver filming finishing on 27 September.

    Re: Various

He's directing/starring in a film in LA. If he doesn't leave that film to support his wife at her premieres he's unlikely to attend a book event in NY.

    Re: Various

Donna Karan did attend, but Matt, Ben and Bill Clinton did not. Quite a false initial report when Matt and Ben (at least) were never going to be there.

It was from a restaurant in Rome during Ocean's 12 filming, I think (or Lake Como?). It's been available for years but recently doing the rounds on tumblr.

    Australian release dates

Good news for Australians - it's looking like 20 October for Contagion and 26 December for We Bought A Zoo.

Will Matt do any kind of press for Margaret?

Probably not. He may attend a premiere in NY if he's there at the time.

    where is matt

So is Matt back in Vancouver finishing up? Can't find any info on Elysium lately there. He sure can disappear or people are not reporting sightings.

    Re: where is matt

There are some tweets saying that Matt was on a college campus in Minnesota, yesterday. Do you know if it's true?
    Vancouver,Minnesota,NY...Sounds like we're playing where's waldo? :)

    Re: where is matt

I thought he was on set in Vancouver on Monday as part of a huge stunt (there was a reference by a stunt guy to Matt's calm presence on set). And there's a separate story about Matt meeting footballer Ronaldo in NY on Monday night at Nello's.

    Man From Uncle

This indiewire story says that although both Soderbergh and studio would be pleased to have Matt onboard for Man From Uncle, he can't do it because he's shooting his directorial debut at the same time - in February. Do you know if this is accurate?
mattdamoncolumn From: mattdamoncolumn Date: September 20th, 2011 10:00 pm (UTC) (Link)

    Re: Man From Uncle

Don't know - there's been nothing about it in recent interviews and movie tracking pages haven't changed about the possible film (no new additions to cast, crew etc). And I doubt Matt's got time to get a new film prepped if he finishes Elysium in late November.

    Video for State Department

A new State Department video narrated by Matt to tie in with the Clinton Global Initiative (a similar video was released last year at the same time):

    Re: Video for State Department

The Haiti event is tonight. I guess if Matt doesn't show he's probably in Vancouver.
Ever since it came out that Matt got his script to direct didn't he say it would be next year? If not before liberace maybe after.
mattdamoncolumn From: mattdamoncolumn Date: September 21st, 2011 12:15 am (UTC) (Link)

    Re: Video for State Department

I think Indiewire is getting the February start date from an earlier article which claimed The Office is on a break in February and that's when Krasinski would have to be shooting (we don't even know if he's the lead).

ETA: the original Indiewire article quotes Matt saying he'll be filming in the first quarter of 2012 and that The Office will be on break March/April. So I don't know where a confirmed date of February comes from.

    Abduction review

Awesome - it's 'worse than Twilight' and one of the worst films of the year.

Spoilers from an Australian review if you care:

Ultimately this ham-fisted Bourne-wannabe – so subtle is the film about this desire, that at one point Nathan is directly compared to Matt Damon – is a poorly stitched together collection of tepid action sequences shot like a poor made-for-TV movie, interspersed with dialogue scenes straight out of a sheltered workshop, which combine to create a film that is laughably, hysterically bad, and which you will rightly accuse of abducting your time and money.
