We Bought A Zoo world premiere
  • We Bought A Zoo premiered on Monday at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York. Matt and Lucy attended the premiere with Matt's father, brother and nephews. Photos are at Celebuzz, I'm Not Obsessed, Celebrity Gossip and this tumblr. Comments from the red carpet are at the Hollywood Reporter. The photo of Matt with Benjamin Mee is from the after-party. Full video of the red carpet arrivals is available at Livestream.

Fox Filmed Entertainment co-chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos and We Bought a Zoo director Cameron Crowe posed on the carpet at the premiere in New York. Crowe told THR about a special moment when they were filming the movie. "There was a scene with Matt [Damon] where the tiger was supposed to be lying down on its side, and it rose up in the scene, and it was a little angry, but Matt stayed in the scene and talked him down. I kept the scene in the movie, but the thing is with animals is you never know how it’s going to play out, but that’s the great thing about Matt -- he’s always ready to roll with the scene wherever it goes," said Crowe.

Matt Damon stars as the lead character, Benjamin Mee, in the film. The actor told THR at the premiere that there was a certain animal he wasn't completely comfortable with on set -- ostriches. "They were like these really weird prehistoric creatures with tiny brains. They were just slightly terrifying," he said.

  • Various video junket interviews are now available: E Online, Jake Hamilton, Access Hollywood, part one and part two, Extra, ET Online and AP. Matt discussed plans for Elysium footage to be released at the 2012 Comic Con in the Access interview.

  • Other interviews: Australian Daily Telegraph and the Excelsior, where Matt talks about filming in Mexico City and working with Diego Luna.

  • The American Humane Association's report on the making of Zoo is at their website. No animals were harmed during the making of the film. (PETA still staged a protest outside the premiere.)

  • Matt's awkwardly photo-shopped new GQ cover is at Art8amby. Update: An excerpt of Matt's comments in the article about Tony Gilroy and directing is at the Huffington Post, and the full interview and photos are now available at GQ's website.

  • The video from Saturday Night Live's digital short with Matt, Katy Perry, Andy Samberg and Val Kilmer is available here.

It's a shame the cover is so bad because the photos inside are good. And the article's pretty standard, but fine. Interview is by Amy Wallace, photos by Ben Watts (Naomi's brother).

Quotes from Soderbergh, Crowe and Scott Rudin. The whole interview was done at the Central Park Zoo.

    Re: GQ

Dang Matt looks great in those inside photos. This is how I like my Matt Damon, short hair and fit.

    Re: GQ

It seems to have been a deliberate move to do the Parade and GQ photo-shoots just before Matt went bald. Probably seen as more reader-friendly.

The Gilroy comments are typical Matt. He has strong opinions about a particular issue but hasn't shared them for years, he finally says something (with possibly some incorrect facts in there) and then feels bad and apologises.

Would love Matt to do one whole interview where he spoke his mind without fear of the consequences.

Ben Mee comments on the premiere at the BBC. He was also a guest at the Anderson show taping on Monday:

    Re: GQ

yeah I'm sure Matt is going to get some shit for his Gilroy comments but really from everything I have read about Tony none of this is surprising. In the end Matt is a writer and was standing up for 2 other writers/friends.

I love that pic of Matt and Ben cause they are standing almost the exact same way. It's funny that Matt is bald now but had long hair for the movie, cause he looks more like Ben now.

We Bought A Zoo world premiere

    I like Lucy's hairstyle

The movie has some tough competition in its debut weekend, How do you think it's going to do in B.O.?

Re: We Bought A Zoo world premiere

Don't know. May depend on the critical reaction, but word of mouth appears to be very good. There didn't seem to be a huge amount of people attending the previews last weekend (on very short notice), but those that did seemed to like the film.

There's a lot of competition for family films around Christmas, but it's a great time for a film to be released and they're certainly selling it to the widest possible audience. But their choice of advertising (and the volume of it) also seems to turn a lot of people off.

In Touch video from the premiere where somebody asks the stupid question of would you buy a zoo? Matt's answer: "I have four kids. My life is a zoo. Or a circus."

The other stupid question that keeps coming up in interviews - what kind of wild animal would you be? Nobody quite knows how to answer that.

Ben Watts tumblr has all the photos. I really like the photo shoot except the terrible cover.

Video of the premiere (including Lucy and friends in the background) and Matt talks about the present he got for his anniversary from Lucy. And everyone talks about Matt:

    Re: Video

I always LOVE what Lucy wears for the premieres. She has a really keen sense of style and never gets it wrong.
