Filming wraps in Las Vegas
  • Filming of Behind the Candelabra is due to finish in Las Vegas today. The latest report on filming, and a sighting, is at the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Matt Damon, wearing a hat and glasses to "Kà" (MGM Grand) on Wednesday. Earlier this week he shot a breathtaking scene in front of a crowd at The LVH showroom for the HBO film "Behind The Candelabra." Damon, flamboyantly dressed and in character as Liberace's lover Scott Thorson, drove a vintage Rolls-Royce on the stage where Liberace entertained for years. It was a re-creation of Liberace's grand entrance. Michael Douglas, who plays Liberace, gloriously emerged from the car in a white furlike coat with a 16-foot train.

  • Matt and family met illusionist David Copperfield after attending a performance earlier in the week. David posted a photo on his Twitter with Matt.

  • Producer Jennifer Todd has been named the new President of Matt and Ben's Pearl Street Productions.

Jennifer Todd has been named president of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's production company Pearl Street Films.

Todd comes to the Warner Bros.-based Pearl Street from the Mark Gordon Company, where she served as president of film. She produced the recent Sony Classics release Celeste and Jesse Forever.

"We have enormous respect for Jennifer and look forward to working with her,” Affleck and Damon said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “She is great at producing and developing material, and we believe that with her we can take the company to the next level.”

Pearl Street has several projects in development, including a film based on Boston crime figure Whitey Bulger. Affleck is attached to direct, with Damon starring as Bulger. Damon also co-wrote (with John Krasinski) and stars in the Gus Van Sant-directed drama Promised Land, a Pearl Street project that Focus Features will release in December.

    Danny Elfman

In another GWH link to Promised Land, Danny Elfman has already completed scoring the film.

Here's the photo of Gus Van Sant with Richard Elfman (and Dany Wolf) mentioned in the forum - dated 20 August:

I understand your point of view about the needless violence that abounds in current movies, videogames, etc. But at the same time, I think that you actually could do a great film about a notorious crime boss, without glorifying violent behavior.
It's very difficult,OF COURSE, but it can be done.
"The Godfather",for instance, is a story full of violence, but also has a delicate balance with very rich characters, that make of it a Master Piece.

    Haiti visit

A new video from water.org taken from January's trip to Haiti includes footage of Kyle and Kent being present at the opening of a well, and some video of Matt dancing in celebration:

    Re: Haiti visit

Thank you for posting this timely video. This is the time of year I routinely make contributions to my favorite charities. Before I do so, I like to review the mission, financial health and related financial and operating expense ratios of the charities I contribute to. I want to make sure that my dollars are going to a great cause and that my dollars are well spent ( ie, my money is largely going to the work of the charity). Once again, water.org meets the criteria I look for in a well run (albeit relatively small in the grand scheme of things) charity. It received a four star (the highest ranking possible) from Charity Navigator. The expense ratios are excellent and it received a perfect score on accountability and transparency. It appears there is currently a campaign to raise funds, which will be matched by the caterpillar foundation (up to $200,000).

So all of us who are fans of Matt Damon and his work (both movies and contributions to society) can show are support and double the money right now!

I promise I am not affiliated with this organization. I am merely a long time fan. I am a management consultant in the not for profit industry, which is why I study the organizational characteristics and finances before I contribute my hard earned dollars.

    Kim from Michigan.

    Re: video water.org

It's a great promotional video. I love that they didn't seek any media coverage while they were in Haiti and a video like this has taken about eight months to be released.

Here's a photo of Matt with former Red Sox player Kevin Millar and his family in Vegas on Friday evening:

    Promised Land rating

Promised Land has received a rating of R for language:

(Wonder if they will change the language to get a reappraisal.)

Ben's Argo has received very strong reviews following its premiere in Telluride.

    Re: Promised Land rating

In yet another parallel with Good Will Hunting, it was also rated 'R'.
