Family Reach Foundation event
  • Matt attended the 'Cooking Live with Ming Tsai' event on behalf of the Family Reach Foundation on Tuesday evening. Photos are from Zimbio, Wireimage and Yahoo. No reports are online yet, but reporters from USA Today, People and the New York Times attended the event. Matt is pictured with chefs Ming Tsai, Masaharu Morimoto and Marc Forgione.

  • Update: A report from USA Today, which notes that Lucy was also at the event.

Matt Damon slices and dices like a pro

He acts. He writes. He plans to direct. The one thing admittedly Matt Damon can't quite hack in real life?

"I suck. I suck," said Damon. "Growing up, our mother used to make us cook one night a week. I would try to manipulate my way out of it. But she was pretty good about making us do it. Beef Stroganoff was my signature dish."

Nevertheless, Damon donned chef whites to serve as assistant to culinary stars Ming Tsai and Mario Batali at Tuesday's CookingLive! fundraiser, benefitting the Family Reach Foundation. The group helps families whose children have cancer by taking care of necessities like rent and utilities.

Damon, a father of four, got involved through his own family. "My brother and his wife are really close with the executive director. He called me and said to put this on my calendar," said Damon, there with his wife Lucy.

    E story

I caught the full E story about Matt 'cooking live' on their nightly wrap-up and it was longer and better than the video currently available on the web. I was actually suprised how much they showed. It included the link for donations and some video of Matt with Ming Tsai. They also promoted it several times during the show, which was nice.

    Some new quotes:

About his cooking ability - " (laughs) I'm outside the box here for me, this really isn't my skill set."

About the charity - " a lot of times it's not medical bills, it's things like groceries and keeping the lights on, you know, payments on the car."

About his father - "He did really well in his life and is able to pay the bills, so that's really great, but seeing how hard it is anyway kind of makes us appreciate what these other families who are struggling with all of it are going through."

When asked whether he's the main chef or sous(sp) chef at home - "I don't qualify as the sous chef or the main chef."

When asked if Lucy gave him pointers - "She didn't really want to help me out. I think she wants to watch me fail."

    Re: E story

Thanks for the report - cute quotes.

Lucy looked really happy and supportive in the photos (as she always does).

    New project

An interesting new project for Matt and Ben who are listed as producers at this stage with only Casey in the cast. A great topic that has been the subject of a lot of documentaries and interest in recent years (particularly by the BBC):
