Monuments Men

Monuments Men has a start date for filming of 1 March 2013 in Germany, Austria, Paris and England. It now has a release date of 20 December 2013 and a budget of $50 million (what was Matt just saying about films which have a release date before filming starts?) Fox will co-finance the picture with Sony and distribute internationally.

It will bring together the Vanity Fair cover of earlier this year with Matt, George and Daniel Craig (that photo was a fake collage).

Matt was photographed talking to cast member Bob Balaban at the Gotham Awards last week (before the casting announcement).

Earlier quotes:
“I’m excited about it,” Clooney told TheWrap at the Palm Springs Film Festival on Saturday. “It’s a fun movie because it could be big entertainment. It’s a big budget, you can’t do it small -- it’s landing in Normandy.”

The movie will be based on the book “The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves, and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History,” by Robert M. Edsel.

Clooney said he will co-write, direct and star in the movie, which has been set up at Sony. It will have several meaty roles for actors, though Clooney said it was too early to think about who might fill those roles.

Here's the list of characters in the book:

George is playing George Stout, Cate Blanchett is playing Rose and Bill Murray is Lincoln Kirstein. Dujardin would be Jacques Jaujard.
