Side Effects premiere
  • Matt attended the premiere and after-party for Steven Soderbergh's new film Side Effects in NY on Thursday. Reports and photos are at Vanity Fair and Women's Wear Daily. Matt is pictured below with Channing Tatum, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Soderbergh and producer Greg Jacobs.

Soderbergh held court at the back of the Stone Rose Lounge with stars like Matt Damon and Mara, in front of the tall windows overlooking Central Park. Those involved in Side Effects and in previous Soderbergh projects expressed their regret at the news: screenwriter Burns, who has worked with the director for 10 years, called it “bittersweet.” “We really like this movie, and we feel like, you know, if this is the last movie we make, we feel pretty good about the work that we did together,” he told VF Daily at the party, hosted by Michael Kors.

    Competing Whitey Bulger pics

A new film has just been announced with Johnny Depp to star as Whitey Bulger:

Does that now make three competing Whitey Bulger pics, and Matt and Ben's version is nowhere near production.

BTW, just read the novel for Ben's next film called 'Live by night' by Dennis Lehane. A very average, boring, ultra-violent book glamourising Boston gangsters a generation before Bulger. A few large steps back for Ben into very familiar and overplayed territory.

How can people fall for these fake sites?

Because what the world really needs is another 'Dillinger'. Love Depp but he would be totally miscast ( as he already was once) as a gangster. Universal already made one awful movie that messed with a part that belonged to Matt. They are piling up the bad karma!

    Re: Competing Whitey Bulger pics

Three Whitey Bulger pics? Hmmm ...Too many movies about the same guy(IMHO) And Matt and Ben's version would be for 2015, right?

There are all kinds of fake accounts on Twitter, most are harmless. But I've seen some people who really believe they are following "the Real Matt Damon" even when it is obvious that the account is not verified ...
(Maybe you should make one of the MDNC and so, we could have a reliable source of news of Matt on Twitter)

    Flanders...LOL 【ツ】

Wish this was the real Matt Damon so then he knows how much I like him, but I know it's not. I comment here just because I like to express my feelings about him just in case he reads sometimes and also because I want to defend him from the a-holes that decide to say bad untrue things about him, Ben and their actor friends.

    House of lies

The VERY funny house of lies clip featuring Matt is back up. It's especially funny to me because I pretty much feel this way about Clooney. Lol.

    Re: House of lies

Wish I could see it but no TV for now :( so I look for Matt on the internet--it looks so good-funny! What do they say about Clooney I saw the clip but didn't catch that.

Has it been confirmed yet that Matt will be at the international premiere of A Promised Land?

    Re: Berlinale

No, but he is expected to attend. He has no other public commitments around 8 February and he would also check in with pre-production of 'Monuments Men', due to start filming on 1 March in Berlin.

If anybody wants a challenge, here's another video from the Santa Barbara event and you can almost hear what Ben says to Matt (or the other way around) when Matt presents the trophy - at 1.09:

    Re: Comments

To clarify, I commented "Cheers" to Matt because the third photo you posted is of Matt holding a glass of wine. Delete this comment yet again for the third time, and I won't be posting here again. I appreciate that you provide a space for people to comment, however if that is your attitude towards people commenting re Matt Damon, perhaps you should consider renaming your column "fakemattdamoncolumn" or yourownnamecolumn. Otherwise I am just going to have to place some of my own belly button fluff in the same way as Matt before you delete again. :) Consider it done.

It's not a site for 10 years olds, or people who act like they are 10. That's all. If a comment doesn't assist with a reasonable discussion, or post news, it will be deleted, whatever it is.

    Re: Comments

Funny I agree, yet I'm still here looking and wondering if Matt ever finds himself on any of these weird but sometimes interesting 'fake sites' to get a laugh...belly lint MD phrase is so awesome I LOVE him!!!

This is apropos of nothing, but isn't Channing Tatum bizarre looking in that photo? His head and neck are HUGE! But I'll give him credit for making a lot of smart choices. He'll be around awhile.

    Re: Tatum

Ha ha I've been thinking the same thing for a while now but hadn't said it...him and Matt share the same sort of jaw line except that they don't have the same HUGE head allthough M has a big, smart one. I think Tatum is leaning forward and the camera lenz is blowing it up making it out of proportion or something.

    Behind the Candelabra

DETAILS: Your last last film, (non-theatrical) is Liberace for HBO (starring Matt Damon). I'm sure the costumes were fabulous. Was there a specific outfit though that really stands out?

STEVEN SODERBERGH: OH MY GOD. Everyday there was a costume that made you gasp. Matt had this one outfit that he wears in the film that is this sheer top, unbuttoned, with a male bikini with sequins all over it... climaxing sort of, in the right place. They spread out but get more dense at, sort of, the "action point." He happens to be wearing this ensemble when he's really upset and storms through the house—complete with big sunglasses and flip-flops. You see him and just think, "Wow. That's really brave." I have a great picture of him in it standing next to a Christmas tree.

    Re: Behind the Candelabra

Will Liberace be released in the cinema? I don't live in USA and not sure what HBO is

    Re: Behind the Candelabra

It will be released on HBO (a cable television network) in the US, but will be released in cinemas in other countries. The premiere will be at the Cannes Film Festival.
