Matt Damon News Column
Kimmel, Elysium
  • Reports from the Shakespeare in the Park event on Monday are at Vanity Fair and the New York Times:

Five actors took the stage for the coffin scene from “The Merchant of Venice.” Lily Rabe, as Portia, and Marsha Stephanie Blake, as her lady-in-waiting, led two swaggering suitors, played by Jesse L. Martin and Mr. Damon, up to the gold, silver and lead coffins, followed by Mr. Right, Bassanio, played by Hamish Linklater.

Mr. Damon stole the scene. His Arragon was an obnoxious, gum-chewing lout straight out of “The Bachelor.” The lines were Shakespeare’s, but the character was all-American — the malt-shop Lothario, the pickup artist, the nightmare blind date.

  • Matt appears twice in a new video from Jimmy Kimmel about Channing Tatum.

  • A video of Matt and Sharlto Copley filming a clip for the Dresden Film Festival is available here.

  • An article on the Emmy Guest Actor category is available at the Hollywood Reporter:

Matt Damon, House of Lies (Showtime)
In a season where Damon is nearly a nomination lock for playing Liberace's lover in HBO's Behind the Candelabra, it was especially amusing to see him portray a hyper-jacked-up version of himself alongside Ocean's 11 co-star and pal Don Cheadle. (1 episode)

  • Behind the Candelabra came fifth in the UK box-office last weekend following an initial eighth place the previous weekend in more limited release.

    Kimmel video

In the first shot of matt in the video you can see a woman by him. Is that Lucy? It goes so quick but the little that I see it looks like her. The pic above is too dark to tell.

Apparently matt did a skit with the other comedians for Tom's show according to a twitter post.

    Re: Kimmel video

when i first saw it, i immediately thought it was Lucy. in fact i still do. if you look at the bottom left of the image of him without the glasses, you see a dark haired woman with his arm around her. it must be her and she's smiling up at him.

    Re: Kimmel video

It still looks like Lucy to me. This looks like it filmed in cancun while they were there for summer of Sony. Lucy was with him. You can see Maggie gyllanhall (?) in the background too if anyone cares. She's in the movie with Channing and Jamie. I didn't notice his arm around her. She has her arm on him too coming down.

Sorry, I thought you meant the other snippet. Yes, that definitely looks like Lucy.

    Re: Blomkamp

Notice how the WSJ mentions Blomkamp is "obsessed" with branches of science such as transhumanism?

You can bet your Aunt Sally that the right in America will suddenly become obsessed with 'the evils of transhumanism' and use it as a club to whack the movie. That's why the WSJ wanted to interview him. To find or invent a target and telegraph it to the wing crowd. I hope I am just being paranoid. But I think I am not.

    Promised Land

A new German interview for Promised Land where Matt talks about how the film broke his heart and how he wants to move to LA to have a garden and not be surrounded by concrete.

    Shakespeare in the park

I would have loved to have seen Matt's Arragon. What a hoot! So original and bold... I'm so jealous of New Yorkers right now. I was amused to see that (several days after the fact) the Wall Street Journal called Jessie L Martin's performance the standout, as if in rebuttle to Matt's great NYT review. Ha, ha.

    Awards chat

    Zero Theorem

Late news, but Matt's photo in Zero Theorem has been redacted, and Terry Gilliam says for legal reasons they can't confirm Matt is in the film.

    German interview

Another German interview where Matt talks about never taking roles for the money, not thinking about his image and moving to LA in the fall.

    Re: German interview

Why are these two German articles only now being released? It seems as though these interviews took place back in February when he was attending Berlinale.
