Kimmel, Elysium

  • Reports from the Shakespeare in the Park event on Monday are at Vanity Fair and the New York Times:

Five actors took the stage for the coffin scene from “The Merchant of Venice.” Lily Rabe, as Portia, and Marsha Stephanie Blake, as her lady-in-waiting, led two swaggering suitors, played by Jesse L. Martin and Mr. Damon, up to the gold, silver and lead coffins, followed by Mr. Right, Bassanio, played by Hamish Linklater.

Mr. Damon stole the scene. His Arragon was an obnoxious, gum-chewing lout straight out of “The Bachelor.” The lines were Shakespeare’s, but the character was all-American — the malt-shop Lothario, the pickup artist, the nightmare blind date.

  • Matt appears twice in a new video from Jimmy Kimmel about Channing Tatum.

  • A video of Matt and Sharlto Copley filming a clip for the Dresden Film Festival is available here.

  • An article on the Emmy Guest Actor category is available at the Hollywood Reporter:

Matt Damon, House of Lies (Showtime)
In a season where Damon is nearly a nomination lock for playing Liberace's lover in HBO's Behind the Candelabra, it was especially amusing to see him portray a hyper-jacked-up version of himself alongside Ocean's 11 co-star and pal Don Cheadle. (1 episode)

  • Behind the Candelabra came fifth in the UK box-office last weekend following an initial eighth place the previous weekend in more limited release.
