There's also a photo at People, an article in the CSUN newspaper, photos at Just Jared and a story with an agenda.

When the actor Matt Damon stood before a capacity crowd inside the Cal State Northridge student union last night, he smiled sheepishly and said he wasn’t surprised to see so many star-struck supporters in attendance. After all, he said, he was introducing the education historian and anti-corporate reform activist Diane Ravitch.

thank you. do you know what Julian Lennon was referring to when he said, "more so in Damon's case?"

That line confused me. Maybe he thought Matt was attacked in the media and he still spoke up?

    Monuments Men

    From The Wrap:

    Dec. 20
Some awards pundits who have seen “Monuments Men” say that writer-director George Clooney’s tale of rescuing artworks from the Nazis in World War II, which stars Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray and John Goodman, plays too much like ‘Oceans Eleven.” That might not help its Oscar chances, but would be fine at the box office since that one made $450 million. The question on “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” is shelf life. Will Farrell and Steve Carell aren’t the draws they were when the original generated a ton of hipster love that turned it into a cult hit back in 2004. The kids movie “Walking With Dinosaurs” will siphon off some parents, but shouldn’t hurt either film too much. Advantage: “Anchorman: The Legend Continues”

Kris Tapley talked up Jean Dujardin as a Supporting Actor contender earlier in the week.

This is completely OT, but I just noticed that Ben Affleck's new movie is getting dreadful reviews. Dreadful like 9% on rotten tomatoes. I am not one of the people here who dislikes Affleck so I'm not gloating. I think in the long run it's not good for Matt if Ben's career goes back in the crapper again, since they have a company together, and are working on a film. Ben seems to be one of those people whose life seems to veer between high-highs and low-lows. I think he just needs to stick to directing.

    Re: OT

I've been watching it for a while. The reviews are awful, Ben's performance seems to be pretty bad (with some positive comments that he's playing a version of his old roles), and he's done very little promotion, while Justin Timberlake has done numerous overseas trips to promote it. It doesn't mean much for Ben as he's got bigger projects lined up, but it seems he didn't really try to sell the movie as he knew it was bad. (Lainey has been mocking the film ever since the trailer was released.)

    Re: OT

Agree with Paula, and also stick to directing.
I was just talking to my friend who went with me to the test screening of Monuments Men. It's a greatttt film and we think it will do very well, but not thinking it's an awards contender. It may get some noms and that would be nice!

Matt was on a board to support George Clooney's Shoah Foundation honor, but he didn't attend (held in NY last night).
