Release date for The Martian
  • Fox has announced that The Martian will be released on 25 November 2015 - from The Playlist:

Fox has announced today that the previous mystery date of March 4, 2016 has now been moved ahead to November 25, 2015 and it will be the home of "The Martian." The Drew Goddard-penned adaptation of the book by Andy Weir follows an astronaut who is stranded on a Martian colony and struggles to survive. Back on Earth, NASA tries to mount a rescue mission. With Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" this year, and "The Martian" next fall, are we seeing a resurgence of brainy sci-fi? Guess we'll see, but this is supposed to have a more adventurous spirit of something in the vein of "Apollo 13" or "Cast Away," so don't expect a "2001"-esque drama.

    The Martian

Wow, suddenly chopping four months off the release date seems sort of crazy. I would rather have the release date be more realistic than get bad press later when they have to move it back. I also tend to think that release date means it'll get pressure to be a Oscar contender.

I'm thinking maybe Matt is growing his beard out for the role. I actually hope so, because it's not a look we've ever seen from him in a film and he looks - well, he looks freaking hot.

    The Martian

I went back to skim the book and ended up reading the whole thing all over again. What a very enjoyable book. Weir's ability to use accurate technical details to build suspense is really unusual. He reminds me if Arthur C Clarke in that respect, and for me that's the ultimate compliment, as 'Rendezvous with Rama' is my favorite sci-fi book ever. The humor also stood out even more. Really well done.

There will definitely be some interesting challenges in adapting the book for film, but that's always the case with a piece of literature. I wish the book was better known. That would bolster the box office. If the release date stands - and I think it won't - it will have hellish competition.

    Clooney wedding

The wedding date for George Clooney is apparently 20 September in Italy as part of a weekend of celebrations. I thought it may clash with the Clinton Global Initiative meeting, which is on 23 September. So the dates are close, but Matt could be attending.

    Photos at the Daily Mail.

Gisele and Tom Brady were photographed in Costa Rica in the last week or so and I assumed they would eventually find Matt. At least they didn't get photos of his family.
