Great Wall cast photo, Bourne casting
  • A photo of the main Great Wall cast has been released. Filming continues in Beijing.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Sina Entertainment today posted a group photo of the cast of director Zhang Yimou's new film Changcheng (the Great Wall). Hollywood star Matt Damon is seen among leading actors that include Andy Lau, Jing Tian, Wang Junkai, Willem Defoe and Pedro Pascal.

  • Julia Stiles will be returning for the next Bourne film. Alicia Vikander and Viggo Mortensen are also in talks.

Julia Stiles is set to reprise her role in the next “Bourne Identity” film that will have Matt Damon returning as Jason Bourne and Paul Greengrass attached to direct.

Alicia Vikander is also in talks to join the cast. Sources have told Variety that Viggo Mortensen was holding the offer to play the assassin tracking Bourne but has not confirmed whether he will be joining the cast.

    Great Wall, Bourne

Do you think release of this Great Wall cast photo means they're getting ready to wrap shooting? It seems like they've been shooting forever.

if the Bourne team has put out an offer to Viggo Mortenson as "an assassin" they may be tweaking the formula a bit. Typically the assassins themselves are important but decidedly secondary characters. Bourne's real enemy has been from within the power structure. But Mortenson is a pretty big name. Maybe they are planning more of an extended 'Mano y mano' sort of thing.

    Re: Great Wall, Bourne

I think they are filming until July, so they could be wrapping shortly. Wonder if Matt will go into a summer break (in Costa Rica?) before shooting Bourne in fall.

    Bourne casting

Deadline has confirmed that Vikander has been cast. She's a very hot actress right now, so the fact she chose Bourne over the competition is a positive indicator regarding the script, IMO. I'm curious to see what her role will be. Friend, foe, or something else entirely? Maybe we can expect confirmation on Mortenson soon as well.

    Drew Goddard talks The Martian

    This is very cool!

On this podcast Drew Goddard enthusiastically discusses The Martian for about ten minutes, beginning at approximately the 1 hour, 17 minute mark.

Big takeaways from the discussion: 1) Matt was always Drew's first choice 2) everyone involved is "very proud" of the film (he says this about three times:) 3) the movie has come together in an almost magical way 4) for example, after Goddard had to drop out, the first director they took it to was Ridley Scott, and he said yes the same day(!)

Thanks - love your enthusiasm for this film!

Re Great Wall: Pedro Pascal is now in Bangkok, so his scenes may have finished, but others are still in Beijing.

The Martian will be at San Diego Comic Con!

    With NASA, no less!

Woo-hoo! NASA's panel was hugely popular last year. Apparently they will hold several panels this year, with The Martian featured very prominently among them. Having actual astronauts discuss your movie, talk about legit!

This from a NASA spokesman speaking to SDCC:

We have planetary scientists on two panels who will talk about subjects ranging from Europa to Mars to exoplanets and the search for new worlds.

NASA’s Jim Green and NASA JPL’s Kevin Hand will discuss NASA’s journey to other planets, including the upcoming Pluto fly-by on July 14th by the Pluto New Horizons spacecraft. NASA astrophysicist Amber Straughn will talk about subjects ranging from exoplanets to the James Webb Telescope.

A lot of the discussion will also be framed around the incredible collaboration we are embarking right now with Ridley Scott. His film adaption of Andy Weir’s The Martian is chock full of NASA and we've been very heartily and heavily involved in the production from the beginning. So on our Mars panel, we have Andy Weir, the author, Aditya Sood, the executive producer, and NASA scientist Jim Green who consulted on the film and who will show special visuals related to Mark Watney’s adventure on Mars. (Watney is the main character of the film played by Matt Damon.) And Victor Glover who became an astronaut this year and who may some day be on a mission to Mars will discuss his own path from test pilot to astronaut to future explorer.

I am getting so excited. I am going to see this movie in the theater a bajillion times. Each time with different friends, from my science geek friends, to action movie friends, to "Matt Damon makes every movie worth seeing" friends.

    Ben and Jen divorce

    Re: Ben and Jen divorce

    How sad :(
There were reports back in April, Ben wasn't wearing his wedding band at an event and a few other things as well.

I hope Matt and Lucy are holding up well in their marriage, that would be devastating for them to divorce. I doubt they will though. Matt and Lucy seem to be strong.

I'm so sorry for them, there were one of my favorite couple.

    I have a question.
Matt was present at Ben and Jennifer's marriage?

Well spotted Paula! Maybe it will announce the end of filming. Luhan will bring in a lot of youngsters to the film.
