  • Matt celebrated his 45th birthday with family in London on Friday - from the NY Post:

Matt Damon celebrated his 45th birthday in London on Friday with his family.

“The Martian” star was at Claridge’s hotel having lunch with wife Luciana, their daughters and friends.

“Matt was with his wife, some friends and seven kids,” a spy told Page Six.

A nanny also pitched in with the tykes, we hear, and the restaurant brought out a big cake to celebrate.

  • Julia Stiles posted two photos on Instagram of the last day of Bourne 5 film at the former Kodak factory in Harrow:

  • An update on Bourne 5 filming from producer and Robert Ludlum estate representative Jeffrey Weiner:

Monday through Wednesday I spent on the set of the fifth installment of the Jason Bourne movie franchise, watching the filming of the still-untitled sequel, currently referred to as Bourne 5. As regular readers of this column know, I am a producer of the Bourne film series. And I must say, the new film promises to be as exciting if not more so than the four predecessors.

Matt Damon looks great, returning as Jason Bourne 14 years after being cast in the first one. In fact, he looks better (don’t we all wish we could say that?). Julia Stiles is also back, reprising her role as Nicki Parsons, and delivers an amazing performance. And fans of the series will be happy to know that the action in this installment fully lives up to, if not exceeds, Jason Bourne standards. You will not be disappointed; I guarantee it.

The production will be based in London for the next month or so and then head to places such as Berlin, Washington, DC and Las Vegas. I’m hoping, between now and mid-February when shooting wraps, to be able to carve out some more time to be on set.

  • An interview with Matt and Jessica Chastain conducted after midnight following The Martian's premiere in London. A deleted scene from The Martian is at EW.

The Martian wins weekend #2 and continues to do great overseas:

Instead, Ridley Scott's "The Martian" won the weekend race with a better-than-expected $37 million from 3,854 locations after declining a mere 32% in its second outing for a domestic total of $108.7 million. The space epic, starring Matt Damon, also continued to dazzle overseas, earning another $58.1 million from 74 markets for an early foreign total of $119 million and global total of $227.7 million.

    From Deadline:
The Martian‘s demos this weekend remained in sync with its opening frame drawing 52% males and 72% over 25. New York and Los Angeles continue to be the film’s top markets with Seattle, San Francisco, Boston and Toronto overperforming.

    RE: Boxoffice

Some very impressive international statistics from Deadline:

At $12.8M for the frame, this is Fox’s biggest opening weekend of all time in Korea and set an industry record for the biggest ever October opening.

In Russia, the No. 1 $7.24M bow is twice as big as Gravity and 27% bigger than Interstellar. Also opening in Germany, The Martian bowed better than Interstellar (+5%) and Gravity (+33%).

In holds, the UK added $6.2M taking the cume to a fantastic $20.7M after dropping just 17%. Australia cultivated a further $3.2M, maintaining No. 1 and also down only 17% from opening. The cume is $9.53M.

    The Martian was fantastic!

We did not see it in 3D and then I found out from someone that it was wonderful to see it in 3D. If I get a chance, I plan to see the movie again.

Interesting picture from the Bourne 5 movie -- I am excited to see it. There is already buzz about the movie.

What is next is the Great Wall -- I love epic pictures and anything about China is a movie and the Great Wall is already a movie worth seeing.

Great Wall is next. It will be very risky and a big sell to the American audience, but that is the nature of the project, and would have been understood going in (ie, unlikely to be successful).

Fandango posted a fun video called "Matt Damin Can Do Anything". Nice summary of Matt's movie roles, including scene from The Martian!

    E Online

My post on the previous thread got eclipsed. I thought this one was fun rapid questions where Matt mentions the things he would take if he went to outer space http://www.eonline.com/videos/240879/matt-damon-boxers-or-briefs

    RE: E Online

Cute! Matt looks soon tired, he almost yawns in the beginning. But he's hanging in there like a champ. And boxer briefs! Interesting!

    Andy Weir

Andy Weir's comments on casting before the ridiculous white-washing argument:

Final figures for The Martian - $37,005,266 for the weekend and a worldwide gross of $345.2 million.

Funny how no other major news outlets pick up this headline!

Because it has been a while since we have had a Boston Herald update:

Then there’s the story that Ben’s BFF Matt
Damon never liked Garner.

    A “source” told OK!
maggie that Matt “wasn’t pushing for Ben to end it, but he knows Ben will be happier with another woman.”

“I don’t want to speak for Matt,” said our source, “but that’s insane.”

    The Martian...finally!

Yes! I'm now an entire part of this Damonite family: I saw The Martian yesterday! Very great movie, I love the story, the beautiful pictures of Mars, the whole cast's interpretation, Matt obviously but also Chiwetel Eijifor and Donald Glover were terrific. Matt is really wonderful, performing so different feelings. The theater was full, not a seat free. A some intense moments, any noise in the room, I could feel everybody holding breath, even my husband was tightening my hand! And of course, there were laughs here and there.(maybe less due to the translation- it was in original version with subtitles and the sentence "I have to shit the science ..." had no effect!) I didn't see the time pass even when Matt wasn't on screen, because the story is very well put together.
Now...I can buy and read the book. Many good moments again and I'll imagine Matt in every scene!
And you may add my few euros to the box-office!!

Well that is very odd. I heard him mention NYC but I can't imagine him moving away
